Linksys DMA2100 Issues

After finally getting my extender to work again, after Lynksys stopped supporting them, Im now struggling to get it to work with my Netgear WMDG480 router (Virgin Media Super Hub)

I have given the Lynksys primary and secondary IPs of 0:0:0:0 so it cannot go onto the net, and its working quite happily through my old netgear router.

However for a couple of reasons i dont want to be using two routers.

Microsoft's help has suggested "Enable multicast and UPnP technology on your network router" which I have done.

Can anyone else suggest anything?

Windows 8/ Netflix freezing

I just installed windows 8 and i was watching netflix and the device connect sound plays( but nothing connected) then netflix freezes and i have to reload the entire page :( Does anyone know whats happening ?

I have never been able to fix my Linksys extenders, not through lack of searches and help on here, its just technically beyond me!

Is there a new product out there that will do the same thing?

Can anyone help me?

My remotes on both my extenders have stopped working. After I reboot them they work for a minute or so, and then stop.

As this is happening on both my extenders I assume it's a problem with Windows 7, and not the extenders themselves.

I have found the below solution, but don't know how to go about implementing it.

I have a new "super hub" from Virgin media, Netgear VMDG480.

Thanks in advance if someone can point me in the right direction.

I fixed mine.

Mine was broken tonight too... Here is basically what I did:

I setup a static IP address for the device in my network router
I unplugged the network cable from the device
I started the device
I now get menus... I went into the network menu, chose wired, manual setup, and setup the static IP information
Now for the important part... I put in a bad DNS IP address

And since without DNS it cannot access the internet, it works!

Whew!

Having a hard time using this site, especially after being use to TGB.

How do I search in this site. Especially inside threads?

There are lots of long ones with lots of information but I can't see a way to search individual threads.

Most of the forums I had frequented have tools to search/download threads, or am I just missing something?

I have a casio GzOne Cell Phone and it has Bluetooth capability. I have tried to pair it to my laptop so I can connect to the internet. My phone and the laptop can neither discover one another. Is this something that I cannot achive?

I sort of stumbled upon this. It is probably a bug, but IMHO it is a better way to view the site, especially for us old TGB people. I almost pause in sharing it for fear somebody will decide to "fix the bug" without "fixing the site."

One thing that is really annoying about the new site is how it always shows you all the forums at the top, with the messages at the bottom, initially expanded, then then contracts as the site loads, and of course then the first thing you have to do is expand it again. Super annoying on a slow platform... say Windows Phone 7.

But... if you open to the following URL:

http://experts.windows.com/f

You get an error at the top where it usually shows all the sub-forums, and you get the recent messages expanded, without them collapsing right away. Nice.

(Note: I haven't tested this on WP7 yet, but it seems to work that way in Firefox and IE9 desktop)

Can't reply to experts.windows.com threads on iPhone via Safari (freezes when typing a letter)

Is it a known problem that we can't reply to a post using our iPhone? As soon as I tap in the text box so I can type, the first letter I hit on the keyboard freezes. Example, if I hit the letter A, the A will sit there as if I'm continually holding down A. It will go away and type the A after 30 seconds or more. It's happened ever since the new site upgrade happened moths ago and I'm finally getting around to reporting it. I use my iPhone for many many web sites, and this is the only one I have trouble with. Can anyone else confirm this is the case?

As per my blog post the site has been updated. If you have a few minutes please go check out the changes! Seriously folks, thanks for all your feedback on the site. Here are the list of changes:

· Shrink badge size

· Move user info pane above body in thread view

· Add original join date and post count to user info in posts

· Allow pages to dynamically size

· Expose forum list by default on landing page

· Add TheGreenButton script to Ent. & Connected Home forums

· Ensure question post is consistent with discussion post

· Ensure preview post is consistent with actual post

· Add pagers to forum thread list

· Add pagers near the top of the screen if they appear on the bottom

· Fix editor and other issues with IE9

· Fix Wiki is not using the entire column for text display.

· Fix direct post links for IE8

· Fix cases where navigation is broken when you hover over the chevron and NOT the text for ‘Forums’.

· Fix problem where some users cannot make avatars work

· Fix issue where images couldn’t be used in private messages

· Other small issues.

Proposed content changes to forum landing page

Based on feedback here about the desire to have the forum navigation more readily exposed and to bring the forum landing page for the Entertainment and Connected Home section of the site more in line with the type of content TGB displayed I'd like to get your feedback on the following.

The below example is a start on accomplishing the above. This could become the landing page, replacing the page at http://experts.windows.com/frms/windows_entertainment_and_connected_home/default.aspx or could be an alternate page you could use or create a shortcut for. I'm interested in your feedback on this.

Is this the right content for this page? Would it be useful to place the activity summary that we have on the page now below the list of forums? I'd like to get this page put together soon so please chime in as soon as possible.

Proposed layout changes to improve thread readability

The biggest piece of feedback we received on the layout of this site was that the user information pane took up a lot of space and should be altered to make posts more readable and use screen space more effectively. I'd like to share with you where we're heading with this.

Rather than just reducing the size of the badges we're planning on changing the placement to more effectively improve readabiilty of the thread. Note that this change allows for fewer lines to include more text and unlike the current layout the number of badges does not increase the whitespace below the post. This reduces to overall vertical size of the post on the page and reduces the need for scrolling. The space in the row to the left of the badges allow for more badges to be displayed and potentially accomodate another community request - that we include the join date and actual number of posts.

I'd like to hear your feedback on the effectiveness of below layout especially if you were one of those that felt strongly that we should make this change. While there are some lmits to what we can do in customizing the platform I'll take your feedback into account as we finalize the changes.

Upcoming site changes

Based on feedback posted here and conversations I’ve had with many of you we’re working on some changes to the site. We’ll be addressing browser specific issues such as compatibility with the rich editor, making layout changes to increase the amount of text displayed and making a few other requested tweaks.

One thing I’d like to hear more from you on is the content that should be on the forum landing page that covers Windows Media Center and other entertainment topics. I understand that the preference is for the list of forums to be displayed by default, without the need to expand the “browse forums” list on the current page. I also believe that we don’t need the links to the other forum groups displayed on the right and could use that space to display the current list of most active threads (we’re expecting a bug fix from our platform vendor that will allow us to correctly display current, popular threads as this does not work correctly in some cases right now.)

The above layout would be closer to what was displayed on the old TGB home page. What are your thoughts on what content should be displayed on this page?

Help spot browser specific issues

Along with other work to incorporate some of your feedaback we are working to resolve browser specific issues on the site. I’d like the sharp eye of the community to help us uncover things we’re not aware of.

The things known to us currently are:

IE9: Editor (for posts, Wiki, etc) requires compat mode to be set to work properly
IE8: doesn’t navigate directly to post specific links without compat mode turned on.
IE9: Paste from clipboard into the editor doesn’t work properly for images
Firefox, Chrome, Safari: Must hover over the text on the nav bar for drop down to work properly.

We’re testing currently with IE8, IE9, Firefox 5, Chrome 12 and Safari 5. Please reply back to this thread with any other browser specific issues you may have found and include, at least:

The specific version of browser
Repro steps
A URL, link or example files, text etc that is needed or would help to see the issue

I’ll add it to our list so we can investigate further. Please keep the thread on topic so it can be an efficient way to find, confirm and resolve these issues.

Wiki Cleanup

OK, so I attempted to clean up the wiki area and make it a bit easier to navigate. Having all the WMC topics lumped together with no categorization or organization made no sense, and quite frankly it made the wiki area hard to navigate and find information. I'm hoping now it is a little easier.

I used to have a Green Button account and migrated it to the new forums recently. However, I don't really want to have an account here anymore under this particular screen name if its going to be associated with my Windows Live ID.

Unable to login using my old green button account

When I go to the green button page, it gives me two options which are to either migrate my old green button account or start a new forum profile. When I fill in my user name and password on the migration side and submit, I see the browser is busy for a couple seconds and then nothing. Same page, no response. I can't create a new profile with my hotmail account because it says there is already an account. I'm already logged in to Windows Live. If I log out of Windows Live and try to go to the forum, it is in view only mode (can't post). When I click log in, it takes me to the Windows Live login and then back to the page where I can either migrate my green button account or create a new profile.

No audio playing M2TS files with PCM Audio inside Windows Media Center 7

I have M2TS files that play fine with Media Player Classic or ArcSoft's TMT but have no audio when played in either Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. I need them to play in Media Center as these files are on a Windows 7 PC used as HTPC. These M2TS files have PCM audio. The audio in the M2TS files according to MediaInfo:

I did not have this problem at all with Vista Media Center. It started maifesting itself with Windows 7. I can also replicate the problem on any W7 PC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on how to get the audio to play in Windows Media Player 7.

I am an experienced Windows API programmer interested in promoting Windows 7 on Tablet PC's.

(actually I develop tools for programmers)

I think a forum just for Windows Tablet PC users, developers and those simply interested in using Windows Tablet PC's would make a lot of sense.

Windows 7 is getting a bad rap when it comes to Tablet PC's and while there are a few Windows tablets available right now, most of the news is about the IPad and Android. Rather than wait for Windows 8 (not excited about ARM for Windows, since I am a long time Intel and x86 developer), I think there needs to be more promotion of Windows 7 and Tablet PC's.

Anybody using a Windows 7 Tablet PC yet ?

I have written a number of articles on my blog about Windows 7 and Tablet PC's. I haven't gotten one yet though since the cost is a bit high right now. I am just browsing looking for the right one which is affordable. I don't need any "bells and whistles" and don't need much power (don't require much in hardware, since I develop my own software which can run on almost any x86/x64 platforms with minimal hardware).

Any suggestions about a cheap Windows 7 Tablet PC ?

Got questions about development of software for Windows 7 (or even 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista) which needs to be small in size (small footprint) and requires minimal hardware, especially for Tablet PC's or Netbooks, I am the guy to ask.
