I've played with the Samsung Focus Flash (cruel name) phone at the store and love the interface. It's loaded with Windows Phone 7. So here is this Microsoft operating system that runs fast with low hardware requirements and does all things media much like a desktop or laptop. Why haven't they turned this into the next Windows Media Center? Here are some points in its favor:

  1. Low overhead means fewer crashes.
  2. Smaller, cooler HTPCs
  3. Use any phone as a remote without third party apps.
  4. Install WP7 apps and display them onto TV screen.
  5. Play music while using other apps.
  6. Control the HTPC via built-in voice recognition.
  7. Add telephony features to our HTPCs.

If Microsoft adds this OS to their Xbox could they turn every Xbox into an HTPC (not just an extender) and sell even more units? Or sell dedicated "PCTVs" with self-updating, virus free Windows Phone 7 to give them total home entertainment systems? Could this be a viable Media Center of the future and would you buy it instead of a full HTPC running Windows 7?
