meister:I'm running Vista x64 and the .25 drivers also. I noticed the same resolution when i checked some of my recording details, but the HD content tag is definately set to 'Y' in the details on mine. 704x480 is pretty much the standard for widescreen tv content(non-hd) and a lot of dvd movies as well. It could be this is imposed by microsoft for non OCUR devices but I don't know for sure. What is the bitrate you are recording at? On mine its like 15 mb/sec for hdtv content, and about half that for NTSC content. Also HDTV content is recording at 59 fps, and NTSC content is half that. So there is definately a difference in bitrate and frame rate. The recordings I make with media center are just as good as the ones made with my SA8300 HD dvr.

I wouldn't trust what Windows Media Player says about videos; its usually wrong. I also wouldn't trust the HD tag to tell me when shows are HD. The HD tag is sent through guide data, but networks often lie about what is HD content and what is upconverted SD content. TBS reports everything they run to be HD, however very few shows they run are actually HD. On the other hand, my local MyNetworkTV affiliate often does not report movies as HD that are clearly HD. Media Center can definitely record HD; I can confirm.
Your bitrates sounds about right. In my area HD content ranges from 12-19mbps and SD from 2-5mbps. It is all variable bit rate.
Octavean: For the HDHomeRun the only HD recorded files I currently have are for “Jericho” on WCBS-DT and that comes up as 704x480. On the Avermedia AverTV Combo PCIe X1 M780 system I was comparing “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. Since these are different shows from different networks we don’t really know what the original broadcast format was. I wish Microsoft made it a little easier to tell if a show is 720p or 1080i.

yzc:I am in Chicago having the comcast Chicago hooked to up my Aver M780 card in VMC for QAM tuning with almost all of the free QAM channels. It has been working for over 4 months. Absolutely no problem except the losing of the tv guide. That's not a big deal as I manfully download guide every two weeks and re-map the channels.
If you check a few pages back you'll find a post from "mold" on how to work around the disappearing guide problem.
I’ve noticed that about TBS-HD, its in a 16:9 format but it most certainly is not HD.

BTW, the HBO-HD, Showtime-HD, Max-HD and SD premium channels I was receiving in the clear after my last rescan are no longer unencrypted. It was fun while it lasted though,…a thing of beauty really :) . My guess is that my cable provider temporarily unencrypted these premium channels as part of a promotion to garner subscribers. Well at lest I still have ~140 QAM channels some of which are HD.

Most people in this thread are attempting to use this card as a tuner in their Media Center PC. Specifically to tune in QAM channels. If you are not using Media Center, I think there are some other options for you including SageTV, and even some AverMedia software to tune in TV on your PC.
I wish you the best of luck with your new card.
Felixk:Release Note of V1.0.0.10 -------------------- Fix - The possibility of "Failed to open file" error.
From the ClearQAM Utility Manual V1.4 PDF doc:
“You can specify the name, such as “CNBC”, for each program by double-click it.”
This is an awesome feature, and I have to suspect that it will eliminate the digital guide data loss bug and the need for any custom configurations to prevent said loss. It could also eliminate the need to manually assign the digital guide assuming this channel data is exported with the digital guide data into MCE / VMC.
In any case, great work!!!
Thanks!
