Well I tried a HRC scan and about 10 minutes into it Vista blue screened..... I will keep looking to see if I can get you any usable data from the crash.

In case if you are still getting an error "Failed to open file" when you scan for Clear QAM:

    1. please disconnect your cable from tuner (turn off your computer and face your monitor directly to West)

    2.  look carefully inside in cable RF connector with magnified glass or microscope for all  possible Bugs.

    3. if you find them, please use %90 alcohol to kill them.

In case if you will get this error again, please repeat steps 1-3

    Happy April 1 :-)

I just bought a M780 PCI-e card for my XP media center computer.  I can tune cable channels but can't get any OTA HD channels.  I can only receive channels from cable or antenna, not both.  I have to reconfigure XP media center to switch between sources.  I checked QAM listings and my zip (46033) lists several channels but I have no idea how to get them with the M780 and XP media center.  QAM listing shows 8vsb and qam256 stations, I don't know what this means cause I'm a nobb.  I also don't know what GB-PVR is.  Can you (or any one else) help me with the setup for XP?

system:  micromagic Gigabyte S-series intel quad 6600, 4GB 800MHz RAM, 500GB hard drive, 512MB ATI Radeon HD2600 Pro video card, Windows XP Media center

I have a problem that I have not seen anywhere in this thread, although I could have overlooked it. Hopefully someone will know a solution.

I have Vista SP1, .25 driver, and .10 QAM tool. When I run the QAM tool, everything works perfectly. I am able to set up about 10 channels. When I click the export button, it appears to export successfully, no errors. However, when I go to set up the QAM channels in media center, only the first channel is there. The Enable-DT channel that I am suposed to delete is not there. The one channel looks great but where are the other channels?

I have tried version .8 & .9 of the QAM tool but the same result.

when you go to --> settings --> TV, do you see an option for digital tv signal strength? if so is Enable-DT there? If so, un-check it.

I followed "mold" guide to work the disappearing guide prbolem. I tried serval times following the his instruction carefully. The disaappering guide problem still exists. Does anyone else try and work it out? Any hints?

    Thanks!

Did you add that DTV channel 69 at the end of the process?  That's critical to the success of the procedure.

I've applied the "mold" solution, and my guide has not yet disappeared.  But, I am constantly getting the guide update message saying that new conflicts might exist.  Is everyone else getting that too?  What drives that message to come up?

I have followed the Aver instructions to do "manual" guide updates... so should this even be happening?  I also only have 2 days of guide data in my system now.  What's a clear QAM user to do???

Yes, I tried it and it worked perfectly. Laborous, time consuming, yes. But it worked the first time. I was losing the guide every other day and I haven't list it since.

Are the modifications that you put in the atscprefs.xml file still there? Did you add and delete the high order channel to get VMC to read the modified file? You must be skipping some step.

    Go Griz!!!

No I am not getting any conflict messages. I added 50 channels.

I do not see Enable-DT but in looking at the signal strength screen, I think I have figured out the problem. I don't know how to solve it however.

The Signal Strength screen shows 153 channels, from channel 2-1 to 12-3. (The Add Channel to Guide screen is showing 153 channels now also.) The encrypted ones show a low signal strength, the unencrypted show a high strength. All of these channels show up in the QAM tool but I deslected most because they are digital music channels. The one channel that I selected in the QAM tool that shows up on the Signal Strength screen maps to channel 11-3. The other channels I selected would be channel 13 or higher but the Signal Strength settings top out at 12-3.

So, this seems to be a channel mapping issue but I don't know how to make the upper channels map to lower channels, or increase the channel range beyond 12-3. I'm guessing this can be done manually but I haven't a clue where to do it.

Why do you have encrypted channels in your list?  The latest tool lets you just export unencrypted channels.   Still, if you go to enable missing channels screen, make sure Enable-DT is not the first item in the list.  If it is, DELETE it.

The way you're explaining things, you are really looking at this wrong.  There's no reason to go into the signal strength screen at all for this process.  I suspect you're overthinking this.

    • Do your scan on unencrypted channels
    • Export to your guide
    • Immediately DELETE  Enable-DT channel in 'add missing channels' screen
    • Go to your guide and look at the 1000+ stations, and start writing down what network/call sign each station is.
    • Go into setup -> TV -> Guide -> Add Listings to Stations and start assigning the call signs you wrote down to the right channel #.
There's no reason to go into signal strength, and no real reason at this point to understand or know about the major/minor pairs identifying the stations.

I figured it out and it hadnothing to do with channel mapping. The 2nd channel that I had selected in the QAM tool was A&E HD. I named it "A&E HD," and the ampersand broke the atscpref.xml file (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG\prefs). I removed the & and everything works as it should!

Felix: You may want to some regex  checking to escape characters like  & to prevent this in future versions.

I just built a computer and installed this card on it, but I am having a problem.  When ever I attempt to use the tuner, my computer will lock up.  I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, as this is the first computer i've built.  I looked around this site and others, but can't seem to find a solution to this problem.
