I'm having an issue getting the right listings on the website.

Vista MCE: I have the proper time zone (Dallas/CST) and guide setup on my  MCE machine. It communicates to MSN's site without an issue.

Remote Laptop: When I log into tv.msn.com the Vista MCE shows up and I can view scheduled recordings, but the guide appears in Eastern time zone. When I change the tv provider to the proper time zone it changes the "remote record" feature back to "schedule dvr recordings from the web". Click that link and select the MCE at home and it switches back to "provider: eastern" and "choose provider link" ...it's a vicious circle.

i can't seem to find any timezone settings on the local MCE machine and as mentioned, changing the provider settings via the web makes it impossible for me to schedule remotely.

    please advise.

While you have your provider set to Eastern Timezone, try to schedule a recording.  You will get a message that the provider in MSN Remote Record does not match the provider on the MCE and that they have been automatically synchronized.  Now you should be able to schedule recording from MSN Remote Record.

    Thank you.

    ATSDave:
I've since discovered WebGuide (www.asciiexpress.com), and it is far better and more functional than MSN RR will ever be! Not only can you view schedules & initiate recording of SD & HD, but you can also WATCH recorded & live TV from your MC with WebGuide via LAN or Internet! You can also get to all your music, pics, videos. Give it a try.

I'm not associated w/asciiexpress, just a very satisfied customer!

    Webguide is a great app/service !!

Testimony to just how superior webguide is to the RR monstrosity is the fact that MS has aquired the services of webguide creator Doug Berret, the upshot of this being that webguide's full services are now available to all for free.

I imagine webguide might get a bit of aesthetic refurbishment, before usurping the remote record rubbish that currently exists. Who knows..(or cares!) It still works great :)

Streaming TVMusic/video from the web, grouped media center 'prisms', PDA support and a cool sidebar gadget makes this one of the greatest mce enhancements out there...and now free!

who need softsled when you have webguide :p

(this post is not meant to annoy/start flame wars)

I finally got fed up with MS's attitude to MCE, the fact that US customers are the only ones, and to get it anywhere near usable takes weeks, plus the giant flaws in it anyway that cant be user fixed (like the inability to use 2 TV sources for one)

So i moved to mythtv, and it works so much better its crazy, completely free (listings in the US cost $20/yr) and there is also excellent support by the makers/maintainers, and being OSS you can fix anything you don't like anyway

There is also mythweb, which is like Webguide, except miles better (although it doesn't look quite as pretty) is fast as anything, webguide doesn't hold a candle to it
Of course webguide being free does bode better for it :)

Most of the problems left in Linux are mainly drivers IMO, and as with the vista argument, that's the hardware MFR's fault so ....

MSN Remote Record has been discontinued. Check out WebGuide.

Webguide does not work with TV Pack installed, right? Are there any good alternatives out there for remote scheduling tv recordings for Vista MCE now that MSN Remote Record has been discontinued?

I have google'd it myself but were unable to find any good software.

Correct, WebGuide doesn't work with TV Pack. No alternatives as far as I know. One more reason to stay far away from the TV Pack.
