I just bought the Volar Max and it is the only tuner for my laptop (Dell XPS) with Vista MCE tv Pack.
It finds the digital tuner, but will not find any qam channels.
If I use the AVER media app it finds the qam channels fine.
Do I need to have a second tuner installed for this to work?
Thanks

I must be doing something wrong -
The Aver MediaCenter works fine. I get all the channels fine.
In VMC it tells me "Tuner Not Found". I've updated drivers to no avail. Although the Volar seems cool I think I will return it if I can't get VMC working.
Any thoughts?
This is well know issue with VMC, however there is a trick to fix it.
Try this one first
Open Device Manager and make sure the tuner device is working properly (without yellow bang, etc.)
* Make sure there is no other application hogging the tuner device, e.g. MCS or other TV applications.
* Make sure eHome Receiver (ehrecvr) service is running properly.
* Try:
- Close Media Center. Stop and restart ehrecvr service (“net stop ehrecvr” and “net start ehrecvr” from cmd). Restart Media Center.
- Delete MCE TV tuner settings in the registry: HKLM\SPFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Video\Tuner. Keep the DVR entry and delete all others, as shown below. Reboot the PC. And go through Set Up TV Signal under Media Center again.
Felix,
Thanks for the reply. This led me to my problem - my Receiver service is not working properly. It stops with a "1067 - process terminated unexpectedly".
From what I've read there are many programs that can interfere with this service. I need to chase this down now.
Thanks again.
I bought the Volar Max, but am having issues with the volume in digital cable (QAM) using the AverMediacenter. The volume is less than 1/4th the volume of analog tv. In fact, its so low that even when I crank it up to the max its still not loud enough. I tried in on another PC with the same result. I checked the mixer settings, and cranked up the volume in AVerMediaCenter.
I'm running with the latest download, AVer MediaCenter 1.7.2 and driver 1.0.0.88_Encoder3.0.1.2_AVIN1.1.0.10_1.0.0.7 onVista 32-bit.
Anyone else experience this? If I can't get it fixed, it will have to go back.
For AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max Microsoft has In-Box drivers in Windows 7. This drivers support Analog/ATSC or Clear QAM
You dont need to do anything, just plug in and and Windows 7 will install drivers on its own.

Hi, I am having an issue viewing the QAM channels (Channel #'s > 100) using Volar Max in Windows XP Media Center (2005) w/ rollup 2.
I installed the AverMedia MCE plugin V1.0.0.85 and the QAM tool V1.0.0.12 and followed all the instructions from the QAM guide and exported the clear QAM channels data to MCE XP.
I could view all clear QAM channels in MCE XP (<channel #100) ok, but anything above channel 100 I could not view in MCE XP.
I could view these same QAM channels using AVerMediaCenter ok. I checked in the QAM tool and I could also view these same channels while in QAM tool (and these channel#s were all checked before I did the export).
Also,
1) When MCE XP was in Live TV and I entered channel 103 (say), MCE XP did go to that channel but I only got a black screen (no video).
2) When I went further up to say channel 190-195 (PBS channels), MCE XP would not switch to that channel, but stayed in the previous channel. The same occured when I went to #70x channels where the HD channels were.
When I click on any of these QAM channels (channels 190-195, channels 70x) while in MCE XP Program Guide, MCE XP only responded with a chime and it will not go to that channel but stayed in the Program Guide page.
Anyone has ever seen this issue? Or it is just me?
I did select 'Cable' when I configured the MCE XP TV Signal, 'No' on Cable box, and selected 'Yes' on Digital Antenna. Could it be that MCE did not let me go to these higher channel #s because when I selected 'Cable' it regarded as analog Cable settings (which obviously did not have these higher channel #s)? (I did download the Program Guide selecting 'Comcast Digital' as provider)
Should I reinstall the AverMedia MCE plugin and the QAM tool and redid the whole thing?
thx
Additional note:
I recall when I was setting up MCE XP to download the Program Guide,
MCE XP show a message: "Lineup mismatch. The provider you have chosen is Digital. You might want to go back and choose a non-digital provider."
Was that happening because MCE XP still thought the 'Cable' TV signal was an analog one for Volar Max? But I thought the AverMedia plugin I installed already took care of this hybrid TV tuner issue--or not?
I recall I also saw a message from Media Center XP when I wanted to switch to the higher channels:
"The channel may not be supported. If you cannot tune to any other channel, restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer, then try again."
There seems to be a fix for Vista:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929011
If this is what the issue is, I wonder if there is a fix for MC XP, or the AverMedia MCE plugin should also take care of this?
I tried different channel numbers and I believe channel 158 is the highest channel MCE XP allows me to switch to (I was not able to observe video/sound even if I was able to switch to that channel--not sure if that was a related or separate issue).
