Hello all,

For those of you Windows 7 testers out there, I have what might seem like a simple question...how do you add movies into the new movies section?  I have a couple of movies in storage but they don't show up in movies but show up in videos.  Do the files have to be in a specific format?

All AVIs seem to work fine. Add the folder that you keep them in to the "DVD Movies" library in Media Center. If you add the DVDID XML files you'll get cover art etc.

You'll need to be running build 6596 for it to work.

Have you really tried this or is it theoretical ? Ithought dvdxml files worked only in conjunction with .TS files , not with AVIs.

I am also graetly interested as I find MyMovies very nice but a bit cumbersome to use.

Another way to add cover art is to use "Folder.jpg" files inside the video Ts folder on the DVDs, and "Folder.jpg" inside the folder of the .wmv, .avi or .mkv video.

Another trick is to view the art as large or small view.

Are you able to get your dvd rips (.vob) files to appear in the movies library on the 360?

Anybody else seeing long load times for the library to appear? I have 450 movies on a server and have added that folder to the DVD movie library. It takes about 2 minutes for the movies to appear. The movies on the server are avi's, mpg's, mp4's, wmv's, etc....quite a mix. After the library loads I can view and play movies OK. Each time I go into the movie library it takes a while...I'm guessing it is not saving the contents of the library and has to rebuild it each time. FYI my server is read only and that may have something to do with it. Win7 was complaining that it can't index (modify) the shares.

Good tip. I now have Win7 MC showing my 47 avi's under the Movies section. What about cover art though? Do I need to find that myself or is MC supposed to download the cover art itself? Cause it shows the movies, but no covers. Nor do the title, genre, sorting work. Is there some sort of xml file I need to supply MC with?

W7 does not natively read MP4 files, so they will not show up in the UI.

But they play natively in WMP on W7...

Are you running any add-ins?  I have done several installs and have been unsuccessful... Do you have a favor website where you get "legal" files from?  Something like Tekzilla, DT.TV... I would love to test the format you are using to determine if its a file in a wrapper?
