They are either DVD encodes using Handbrake on my iMac (H.264 in an MP4 container with the iPod Atom inserted,) or Blu-ray encodes using RipBot264.

Interesting... it's now working if I copy the files to my "Videos" library on the local machine (as opposed to directly from the network share.)

I'm removing My Movies to see if that WHS add-in is messing things up. Will keep you posted.

Sorry... moving to fast... Just notice MP4 file with H.264 wrapper...

I just ran some test, MP4 extension does not show in library, DVD... MP4 will show in library under VIDEO...

    Post your findings...

    boardworks:
I have a similar setup (large library on Windows Home Server of MP4/H.264) and cannot get the movies to show up in the "Movies" library. I have each movie (.mp4 file) in a folder with the movie name, and in each of those folders I have the .dvdid.xml file, and the movies do not show up. Now, if I add a VIDEO_TS subfolder, the movie will show up, but does not play when selected. Any ideas? /Videos /Movies /Back to the Future /Back to the Future.dvdid.xml /Back to the Future.mp4 /folder.jpg Thanks in advance!

You're right on MP4 not being recognized. However, I *was* able to trick Media Center by adding .wmv to the file extension and it showed up! Of course it wouldn't play with that extension; however, I renamed the file back to .mp4 and the folder remained listed in the Movies section. Further, I played the file and it worked, so we know it supports it, just doesn't scan for the .mp4 extension. I'm digging around to try and find the extension list that the Movies section uses when watching folders -- any thoughts?

    Tricked!

How did you add them to the Movies section? I didn't see that in the thread.
I just installed 7MC, and so far it's good, but I'd like to use the Movies feature. I have a bunch of movies ripped to DVR-MS, and they don't show up. Thanks.

Has anyone tried 7MC with either a Sony or Niveus DVD Changer?  Was wondering if this still works?

If you add the DVDID XML files you'll get cover art etc.

How nice! So, I have my dvd collection ripped to divx and have been using OML in VMC. If I wanted to get these into the DVD Movies ap in Win7, is there a simplified way to bulk add the DVDID xml files to all of my movies folders?

When I installed OML in Windows 7, I just rescanned the folder and my titles all appeared. Too bad it wasn't that easy to add them to the DVD Movies library. Suggestions?  I'd love to try that method for a while.

Does Win7 carry forward the DVDInfoCache folder and metadata scheme that Vista uses?

I'm asking because I'm hoping that the the DVD Library Manager tool will continue to work on Win7.

    So obvious (maybe?) question:

Whats the difference between Movie Library and Video Library, other than the conceptual difference between say a TV show and a Movie?

I don't necessarily see the whole benefit to having the 'Movie' Library and the 'Video' Library completely.

Ok, so I have 3 separate drives with movies on them.  WMV files each in their own directory for My Movies.  On a second PC, which acts as an extender in my kitchen, I've added these drives to the Movies Library.  This makes it watch all of the sub-directories as well.  Nothing is showing up.

    Any suggestions?

    Ask Microsoft. :)

I suspect the thinking is that a "movie" initially was being defined as something stored as a DVD folder structure. Everything else would be defined as a "video".

This seems to be the case still, even though Microsoft has added native support for a number of new formats which are generally used for movies (feature films, if you will).

This is evidenced by the inability of the Movie library to reliably show anything other than DVD folder based content.

This is being discussed in another thread, and it seems to have been concluded that mkv's, mp4's, etc. will show in the Movie Library if there are no DVD folders present in the monitored hierarchy.

The DVD library also does not seem to like xml data from other providers, so if there is, say, My Movies xml data in a DVD folder the library will not pick up or show the synopsis, etc., just the cover art.

There's no way to get metadata into the Video Library.  The Movie Library supports metadata.  One can use dvdxml.com or 3rd party app developed here DVD Library Manager to add metadata to the Movie Library.

I guess your video library is supposed to be for things like home videos (as it's in the same line as photos), whereas movies are movies.

That's probably the difference as they see it.

I have 80 or so DVDs ripped to MPEG-2 (MCE 2005 and extenders) in a folder named \\SERVER\Movies. There is also a .jpg file for each .mpg file. These all show up in Videos with cover art. They also show up in My DVD Movies with no cover art. I posted a bug in the Windows 7 Beta but no response. How do I get My DVD Movies to show cover art? I don't think I am grasping the DVDXML thing. Can someone point me to some specifics?
