Generally that setting would be in the external player.  The MCML app doesn't really need that information if an external process is launched.

Wow, is this annoying.  I just purchased PowerDVD 8 like 3 weeks ago.

hey i thought i was the only one faced with this dilemma.  i bought 8 a few weeks ago.  if you go to the site
Cyberlink Member Zone and go to Check Order Status, you may still be able to Request a Return on that order and then make sure to Accept the Letter of Destruction as well right after .  I did this for the upgrade to version 9 just now and one other previous version in the past and they credit you back pretty quick.  If you have version 8 ultra now though, I'd stick with it.  This version 9 is a joke.  There's next to no working media center integration for an additional 60 bucks, so if you were in it for MCE, stay away.

I am running Win7 64 and it would not play blu-ray: It got 40% or so into loading then locked up. I had to kill the process. It did this in media center and stand alone. Anyone else test the full ultra version with BD in Win7 64?

On the remote, everything appears to work fine with the remote. I haven't had time to test out using with MyMovies yet.

So, is there an API call that disables the screen saver? Because, if I was running an external app that had a static or mostly idle image, I WOULD want the SS kicking in, but if I am watching a video (and it is playing, not paused) I WOULDN'T want it to kick in!

You would think that they would give you 30 days or so to address this sort of thing.

Again, generally speaking that is something the external application would do.  I have no idea if Microsoft has provided a method to do it with an API, but look at the options within a program like Windows Media Player (aka, an external app) and note that issues like the screen saver and timeouts are generally handled their.

Does anyone know why PDVD 9 Ultra crashes when I switch to cinema mode? The only way to get it working again is a reinstall. (and not switching to cinema mode again, of course)

Also the Windows Media Center integration doesn't work. It might be related to the 1st issue.  When I click on Play Blu Ray from MCE, the Media Center UI minimizes and that's it.

If I use the non cinema mode, it works just fine... however it obviously not the way I'd wait it.

MKV support in DVD/Blu-ray playing software ? Media Center plays MKV files back fine, if you have the right codecs installed....

I would expect this software to do what it says, play back DVD and Blu-ray only...

Anyway, anyone get a way to hack in HD-DVD playback into this like the older versions ?

I was tempted to download the trial but, It can't play blu-ray discs with a trial ? No wonder why people look for torrents to test software....

Yes, MKV does play fine in VMC. Apart from VMC the application itself as a standalone player does not. There's no excuse for that with this new release. Many, many other players including VMC (with correct codecs) can play MKVs. But not PowerDVD 9. Just another example of why I left PowerCinema for VMC...

I have powerDVD 9 and it integrates fine with Media Center. My problem is that whenever i play a DVD in VMC i have to choose between using media center and PowerDVD. Is there some way to set a default? The windows auto-play settings seem to be ignored.

I've heard these guys have bad support, but I'm stunned by the responses I get.  Am I overreacting?  If not, well, ARGH ...

    djp952:

There does not seem to be a way to control the TrueTheater settings in the new Cinema or Media Center UIs. It's either "on" all the way, including motion enhancement, or completely off. Is there a way to set this UI up with a specific set of enhancement settings like you can in the standard UI? Many people I know hate motion enhancement, it makes everything look very cartoony and is not how the film is supposed to look. I *love* the other enhancements when set properly and would really like to be able to use these through Media Center. I have no aversions to editing the registry or whatever it will take.

    Cyberlink:

In regards to your concern, please let us know what exactly you mean by motion enhancement settings.

Also please send us the screenshot of the motion enhancement screen. To take a screen shot, please press Print Screen key on your keyboard when when you are on that screen. Then go to Start>programs>Accessories>Paint. Paste the screen capture there by pressing Ctrl+V or alt+Edit+Paste. Save the file and send to us for analysis.

    djp952:

Updated per request with 2 screen shots. The first illustrates the control over TrueTheater, including Motion Enhancement available from the standard UI. The second illustrates the lack of control over these features in the Cinema/Media Center UI. What I'm looking for is a way to turn OFF "TrueTheater Motion" in the Cinema/Media Center UI.  My research to date shows that the application is reading this setting from the registry, it's just not obeying it.

    Cyberlink:

In response to your concern please note the following :

    1. TrueTheater function does not support BD playback.

    2. You must turn-off the DXVA (Hardware acceleration).

    3. If your machine is not powerfull, PDVD9 will not enable it.

Please refer to the following link for further reference:

    http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/product-faq-content.do?id=6788&prodId=1&prodVerId=236

    djp952:

You're not understanding the issue here. It's pretty simple. The "TrueMotion" settings in the Cinema/Media Center UI are always ON, there is no way to turn them OFF. This is with standard DVDs, *not* Blu-Rays. If you go into the regular UI and turn OFF TrueMotion, it will still be ON in the Cinema UI and the Media Center UI when you enable TrueTheater instead of HA or None. The setting for TrueMotion is simply not being respected.

Was I really that unclear?  I want the bloody thing off, not on!  Geez.

In fairness, just about everything else I submitted came back with a "bug submitted" response.  This one is killing me, though.

Ditto, same exact issues here.  If I try to launch the BD from 'Movie Library' as I had with PDVD8, MediaCenter bombs and needs to be restarted.  If I try to launch from Cyberlink's integrated menu, it freezes after I play the movie.  Occasionally -- depending on the time of the month and the way the moon and stars are aligned -- I can get the BD to play from the integrated player in MC but it is clunky at best.

Cinema mode is more like a train wreck as described above.

Needless to say I'll be reverting back to version 8 and considering this a waste of time and money.
