Netflix on Xbox, Tivo, etc.. will be better quality because they are Netflix HD. For some reason, the version relased for Media Center is not HD. Go figure.

Still has not shown up in my media center.  Installed SP2, made sure I can play movies on the netflix site, went into settings and hit "download now", rebooted, and even ran the netfix for VMC exe file that has been posted here.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

It showed up on mine(by itself), never used it(no extender support), and has since then mysteriously disapeared(one less useless icon for me).

Would anyone recommend this over vmcnetflix? I have been using vmcnetflix for some time now and like it. Recently I've been having trouble with it populating the listings under the different categories. I will have to exit the category and go back in and it will add a few more titles. Anyway, I just wanted to get some opinions.

    Thanks

If you don't need extender support then yes, I would recommend it over vmcNetflix.

This has been asked a couple of times before, but I thought I'd hit the ball back up into the air and see if anyone knows anything more:

When might we expect to see this plug-in show up in Windows 7? Are we going to have to wait until October 22?

I very-much wanted to upgrade my HTPC to Windows 7 this summer and work out most of the kinks while TV is in the off season; however, this plug-in is now causing me to hesitate, given that my wife and kids use it on a regular basis. Upgrading in late October may not be popular....

The fact that we don't already have it in Win7 leads me to believe that we have to wait for the release.

MS' silence is deafening regarding extender support.  That says it all.  Way to go MS, really doing a bang up job listening to the greenbutton members you said you came her to get in touch with.

FWIW--The official Silverlight 3 player was released today!

I just installed it and I no-longer see the "tearing" while using the MS Netflix app.

I can now disregard M$ attempt at charging for Netflix on the 360 extender as my Sony Bravia tv will soon have it for "FREE" since I already pay for Netflix and my internet connection.  Another failed attempt by M$ to rip off their customers instead of truly offering a quality product.

What kind of video subsystem do you have?  I tried version 3 and it had no effect on the tearing at all, in fact now I seem to get these regular pauses in the video that didn't happen before.  I tried an in-place upgrade and a clean install of Silverlight.

v3 does seem to ramp up to 1500 slightly faster than v2, but that could just be perception.  I still wish there was a way to just ask it for a specific bitrate :)

The 360 implementation is already a quality product, and not a failure in the slightest. Plenty of people joined Netflix as a result of it. And soon they are going even further with it with the update that allows browsing and adding movies from the dash. Offering it for free would not change the quality any. I don't see why you consider it a ripoff... a year of Gold costs a mere $30 unless you're lazy enough to bother paying full price, and part of that profit goes to the retailer you bought the card from, not MS. And membership gives you a lot more for your money than just netflix. There is a lot of Gold exclusive content. And MS did add Netflix to the VMC interface entirely and completely for free. A 360 costs what, $200-350? The markup on a $1000-2500 TV to get that service for "free" probably isn't too far off of the amount MS actually makes off selling a Gold subscription through a third party retailer.

I upgraded to Silverlight V3 today looking for it to solve the poor video quality but found no significant improvement. I guess that's why it's free.

Looks like it's just supporting more media formats/codecs, as well as DRM. No changes in video quality. And if you mean why Silverlight is free, it wouldn't have the slightest chance to break into the market share that Adobe's Flash currently holds if they decided to charge for it. Hell, even free it's still probably not making much of a dent.

This might make sense if Netflix didn't already cost money.  Requiring two paid subscriptions to watch it on XBox was and is ridiculous.

Selling something that is already free on many devices, and coming to more everyday, is a ripoff, regardless of how many other free things you try to pack in there with it.  Last time I checked, I could access last.fm on the interwebs "Free", M$ wants you to pay them for that as well.  Meanwhile, my other extender still can not access netflix, even with a gold account from M$.  Luckily, that one is connected to my Netflix compatible Sony Bravia tv.  My living room system soon will as well with the LG Blu-ray player.  Seems like M$ hanging their extender users out to dry.

Also, a "quality" product doesn't require constant repairs and replacement due to faulty designs.  BTW, I have some great beach front property in Florida to sell you, and if you pay me $50/yr. I'll even throw in daily sunsets by taking down the big wall I built by the deck to block the sunsets.  I mean, it's not that much cheapskate(that was your inference)!  I think you know what you can do with that.  Thanks though.  I rather think of it as knowing how to tell when somebody's pulling the wool over your eyes, like somebody telling you it's raining, when in actuality they're, well, you know.

    Internet access - $720/yr.
    HDTV's - $2900
    Media Center extenders - $800
    MC pc - $1500
    Netflix account - $170/yr.
being called cheap by M$ fangirl -priceless
