    Felix and others,

I have an Avermedia Duet tuner that VMC is not recognizing.  I purchased it and received it a couple of days ago and have spent a few hours wrestling with it to no avail.  I thought I'd ask around here and see why VMC might not recognize it?

    I have Vista Home Premium (SP1) x86.

My Device Manager recognizes the tuner as A188c PCIe Pure ATSC and it is operating with driver .72

The message I see after going to VMC settings and setting up TV signal then trying to click on Live TV is "No tuner cards are configured to work w/ Windows Media Center".

When I attempt the Digital TV Signal setting option it finds one channel: 1011 Enable-DT (1-1).

With my old digital converter box and rabbit ears on my TV, I received all local channels in digital format at 40-60%.  With the same rabbit ears in the same location of the room, now plugged into the Duet tuner, I receive nothing.

Can anyone shed some light on the problem(s)?

    Thank you!

Anyone else had this issue where media center does not detect this card. I am thinking of either going to best buy and buy an ATI and refund from newegg or get a replacement. Which one do you suggest

Yes!  I have...what is the problem?  What am I/we missing here, Felix?!?

One more thing to add about this...Windows reads my tuner in VMC as Avermedia 716x BDA ATSC DC Tuner #1/#2.  Any thoughts about what THAT might mean??

    Thanks...

This many reports of not being able to detect the card is certainly worrying, especially since I waiting for my Duet to arrive in the next day or two.

Well I thought I'd provide an update since information about the card has been so scarce on the internet so far....

I used SageTV 6.5 and recognized my local OTA channels (around 15 or so) quickly.  Hooray!  The next day I had my ISP install my new high speed cable service.  Once it was up and going, I tried VMC again and after working through the Guide (which I hadn't done before due to no internet), it worked as well.  YAY!  In fact, the audio and picture were better with VMC than with SageTV.  Now if I can get my homemade HDTV antenna to mount to my roof, I'll be in business!  =)

Consider my card a success (for now)!

this is an on-going isssue with Media Center, there are some issues with the tuner pool.  Its not avermedias fault, same issues with hauppague.

    google it.

I received my Duet and installed it with Vista Media Center(no tv pack). The installation was flawless, it worked right away. Media center works well with it along with a Hauppage 1800 (all in ATSC)

For those of you using this OTA, how is the reception?  I live fairly close to the transmission towers but there are buildings between me and the towers.  My ATI HDTV Wonder handles it ok but I had some trouble with a Hauppauge HVR-1600.

I was using a Hauppauge 2250 for ATSC and then replaced it with the Aver Duet. I did not notice any change in PQ or reception between the two tuners. (I changed for the benifit of using the hybrid function of the 2250 with analog/QAM) The Duet has been working great for a few months now and it is priced right.

aiwnow, I have the Hauppage 1800 and the Duet in the same system for ATSC. The reception on them seems exactly the same. I'm not sure how the 1800 compares to the 1600 though.

I am like many other hundreds of MythTV users... I really want to buy the AverTVHD Duet as it is priced right...

Please .. Please.. release the Linux drivers...

FelixK, I am sure it will increase your sales.. if you do not ignore LINUX and MythTV users ... A180 works with MythTV.. it would be great if A188 would also work... That is the only thing stopping me from getting this card... otherwise I love its features...

I got my Duet white box yesterday. Hooked it up this morning and it worked perfectly!! 2 QAM tuners are fully functional. I even get the music channels (FM stations) in my lineup. Sweet!!

BTW: I set this up on a fresh Windows 7 RC1 build and am using Comcast in the Bay Area.

Although I have not upgraded to Windows 7 or tested on it yet, I just retired my two Hauppauge cards (WinTV-PVR-500 and WinTV-HVR-1600) for 2 of the AVerMedia Duet Cards on my Vista Ultimate with TV Pack setup. I now have 4 Tuners Working properly and have mapped all of my QAM Channels. I mapped them with the new Guide Tool released last week that I saw in another post. Everything works great! Note that I bought the White Box Versions for less than $75 out the door each(Buy.com). Since they are approved for Windows 7 and already work well for me in the Vista Ultimate install, I feel I made a good choice. Note: None of the info below pertains to problems with the AverMedia Duet card itself, just issues I had with Media Center itselft getting everything to work. I did install one card (dual-tuner) and it worked out of the box, Media Center was fine. When I added the second card, it would crash during Tuner Setup. Removing the Tuners Key in the Registry didn't help. After a bit of troubleshooting, I selected a different Guide Source for my area even though the Channel listings were wrong. Setup Finished but when I set my guide back to my City/Type, it blew up again. More troubleshooting revealed that I needed to delete my mcepg1-0.db file (Had to do in Safe Mode, couldn't find what service had grabbed it). After that, everything setup perfect with both cards (4 QAM Tuners for Digital Cable(Note Not CableCard)). I can only think that the Hauppauge 1600 card having OTA screwed up my guide or something but deleting the DB file worked great for me. I had to reprogram my recordings anyway since Comcast has changed everything around here anyway. Even though my TV's only get Channels 1-30 + a couple of more, Media Center has 103 QAM Cable channels mapped, several of which are HD. Needless to say I am very, very happy again. My 3 extenders remained setup and operate perfectly as well. Also note that the QAM Tool from AVerMedia worked well but after playing with the mapping of channels after using it, I upgraded to the TV Pack and haven't looked back since. OK, that was 3 days ago..... :)

+1, there are a lot of MythTV users out there. When Myth users are deciding on a tuner card they choose from a limited selection  that has Linux support. If you make your excellent card (I'm using one in my W7 box) support Linux you will double your market.

I've got a similar problem to you.. .but rather than it not detecting the card, it locks up my machine. This has been frustrating to say the least since I was looking forward to this card.   Any updates on your side?  if you got it to work, let us (me) know.

7MC detects the two tuners, but then it locks up when I try to do a channel scan... more importantly, it locked up when I first tried to install Windows 7 with the card installed.  I had to remove the card first and then install the OS.

I'm running a Dell Vostro 220s 2.8GHz 4GB RAM which should be sufficient.. I hope?

I currently have a support case open with an Avermedia support tech.. He suggested that I use SageTV to test out the card as well but that also locks up my machine when I try to get the channel guide.  I know that this is not the place to ask for support help.. just wanted to relay my experiences in case anyone was experiencing the same issues.
