Hi!
Im also looking forwrd to the H55 + i3 solution, can this be the holy grail for itx-enthusiasts? Personally I felt the Atom fell short when it comes to performance, despite the ION.
Is Zotac the only supplier for H55 boards to date? What is the difference between the A-E cards?
/Henrik

The Zotac mobo is a mini-ITX H55. Intel's offering (DH57JG) is a H57. "ZOTAC H55ITX-A-E" is the model, there are not two seperate A and E models. The only other H55/H57 mini-ITX board I know of is by ECS which is a H55 as well. There are other offerings that are not mini-ITX. If you go the route of Micro ATX I would recommend you go with a H57 over the H55 due to the limitations (no onboard RAID/PCIe 1.1 ICH10).

I see. Is there any difference between the Zotac and Intel motherboards generally? I need stability, optical audio out, one pci slot for the tv tuner card, s3 sleep/resume capabilities etc etc.
I plan to use a low profile hauppuage nova pci tv tuner card.
kind regards
Henrik

None of the current (3) mini-ITX H55/H57 boards have PCI. They all have 1 x16 PCIe. Based on your questions you would probably want to do a little more research to familiarize yourself with Clarkdale in general. If you read through this thread there should be links to reviews by both babgvant and anandtech that focus on Clarkdale/H5x as a HTPC.
Board features for these can be found at DH57JG and ZOTAC H55ITX-A-E.

Can anyone confirm whether the Intel DH57JG's PCI Express 2.0 x16 connector supports appropriate TV tuner cards? It looks like a ZOTAC employee confirmed (two days ago, Friday, 03/05) that there is a chipset limitation (with no firmware remedy) preventing their PCI Express connector from supporting anything other than a graphics card. Given the other confirmed and reported problems (TurboBoost, Bit-streaming, WiFi, Updating BIOS, their warranty registration doesn't even work) coupled with their lazy response to these issues (it took them a week to confirm for the poster this TV tuner card problem), I've already cancelled my backorder (last week, inventory dried up at Newegg and Amazon, so maybe that is part of their response?).
I've started searching in earnest for any early inventory of Intel's board (I'm in the US), but was hoping someone could clear up the TV tuner card issue. I understand the risk of trying to buy something with no vetting from time in the marketplace, but I just want to make sure Intel's stated specs don't have these absurd caveats...
Im curious why this just not work out of the box, without the need for additional config files or 3rd party decorders. The i3 Core + drivers + Windows 7 would suffice in a perfect world...
Thanks for the explanation!
Another completly different issue, are ther eany passive cooling solutions for the H55 boards and the i3, i5 and i7 CPU? I rather not use the stock cooler for the i3, since I already have a good fan solution in my chassi.
joshbish Where from? In stock?

What features on the motherboard do I need to turn off if I use the i3 CPU with built in audio and video support? I noticed this motherboard has built in audio and video also.
Also, what is the best way to flash the bios of such a motherboard. There doesn seem to be any windows unti, and it was like 6 years ago since I used a floppydrive.
Is it possible in windowns 7 to format an usb device as a bootable system disc and using this as bootup device?
