I'm in a suburb of the Big Easy and just got a letter today that soon (don't say when) Cox is going the SDV route.  At least they'll give you one free or you can rent a receiver for the same price as a cable card....$1.99.

So, if I plan to have the Ceton Infinitv4 and 1 external cablecard tuner, I need 2 I assume???? I can survive with one as my external is getting old and who knows how long it will last. My put my internal on eBay as it's overkill.

The consumer version of Media Center only supports 4 tuners of each type so you can't use the InfiniTV 4 with an ATI External. SDV works, if you have a Motorola CableCARD, then you'll need one Tuning Adapter. If you have a SA, then you'll need two.

Thanks for the info Ben.  I would be using the external in another system so the Ceton will be by itself.  I also already have 2 M cards so I should be good.

Cox tells me today that the units will be available after 8/9 and won't be needed until 8/31.  Of course, they prefer to send someone out so they can charge for the service call but that's not needed.

Have you picked up a TA yet?  I have Cox New Orleans and wondering which one they will be issuing.

I went twice after they said on the phone that they had them (in Metairie) but did not have them yet. So, I got someone's name and they are going to call me when they come in.  The switch happens 8/31 so they are cutting it close.  However, it's very obvious that they don't care.

    I have 2 on 'order'.

It'll likely match your cableCARD. If you have a Cisco/SA cableCARD you'll get the 1520 and need two of them, if you have a Moto Card, you'll only need one.

The COX was supposed to bring a TA today with my M Card installation for the InfiniTV but, he didn't have a TA.  When I asked him about it he said they were having issues and it probably wouldn't be until mid or end September before SDV would be working.

He also mentioned don't connect the TA until SDV is working otherwise you might loose channels.

I wonder who told him that. He's wrong, the TA won't even start until they go on line and then the last part of the start-up procedure is to find the UDCP (unidirectional digital cable product=Cisco for OCUR) authorize the TA and download the channel maps and handshake the UDCP and take over the channel map work for the UDCP. If you connect before they're running, you just see a blinking green LED showing that the TA is looking for an IP address from the cableheadend.

But why waste the electricity until they have the servers runing and the nodes programed to accept the requests.

Ok, and you'll need two TAs if you're running the SA/Cisco M-cards.

Ehh, there's a chance he was right.  When the TA is connected, it overrides the channel maps for ALL channels, not just SDV ones.  If the TA had bad channel maps (but the CableCARD didn't) it's plausible that connecting a TA could cause you to lose channels.

I have yet to get the phone call I was told I would get when they arrive and phone calls to tier 1 support give no info at all.  If they don't get here by the time SDV begins (8/31) and they don't delay SDV, I know I'll be asking for a credit for each day it's not in my hands.  Really, I don't watch many of the channels that are being affected but if enough people ask for a credit, maybe they'll move a bit faster.

I called Friday and was assured that the local office in my area had TA's.  I went first thing this morning and they said not only did they not have any, they have no idea when they will get them in but they've pushed back the switch for another 30 days.

I was a bit pissed so I called Cox to complain.  Why put me on hold 10  minutes while they called someone to verify the TA's were in and then give me completely wrong information?  So far, I've only been told I'd get a call back giving me a definite time I can expect them.
