You are correct that GuideTool is not going to allow you to tune a channel that you cannot already. If you can tune it you can use GuideTool to put it into the guide and to tie that channel to the guide data you want shown there.
It seems wrong or missing guide data is more common than not being able to tune a channel that works on other equipment. That is a problem that you most likely cannot work around.

PauldonYes, it does take time and we can only alert the owners of the data that it needs to be fixed.
Sorry but I don't completely buy this. I can't imagine the data providers give you this data for free, presumably you pay for it and have a contract in place. Don't you have SLAs as part of that contract? If not then whoever negotiated it for MS deserves to be fired.
I've just raised a number of feedback tickets, none of them complicated, lets see how long it takes for them to be addressed. As has been noted many, many times before the UK data provider, BDS, has a track record of being glacially slow. Can they fix programme issues before the programme goes off air? How long to simply change a channel number?
Windows Media Centre - Killed by Microsoft
I'd like to take the opportunity again to point out that after years of it taking up to a year to get a correction through, MS 3-4 years ago said that Denmark was no longer supported in the EPG, "They are too difficult". Scandalous. Partly as a response to that, a locally made EPG service was set up. They are always uptodate, and if you write to them reporting a problem, it is fixed within hours.

The UK Guide is never addressed ITV1 hd and Channel 4 hd aren't even flagged as hd ??? i mean how hard can that be ?? pathetic that you have to pay for digiguide and bsepg to sort it out DVBViewer allows writing of the freesat epg tables. why oh why cant m$ sort that out? at least then they couldn't be blamed.....

I had a raft of emails at around 5 this morning telling me that 6 out of the 7 issues I raised have been "escalated to our Eurpopean [sic] data providers". That's next working day, so perfectly acceptable response time so far. Now lets see how many months BDS can add to the process. Not sure what was objectionable about the final ticket I raised and why it didn't deserve passing to BDS.
I have a ceton with cablecard and comcast and I gotta say I am very dissapointed. It constantly records crap that I don't want recorded because of incorrect guide data. I wanted to to watch the jets game tonight (which was on today) I have comcast and instead it recorded some movie on PIX 11. MCE thinks its WFSBDT which is supposed to be CBS hartford, CT. instead it's PIX 11. My guess is COMCAST is changing what is played on the old frequency every month. (This keeps happening). and the GUIDE data can't keep up. If the gov't can force the cable company to accept cable card can't the gov't force comcast to notify guide data providers about the changes? If the guide data is not in sync the cablecard and MCE are useless.
No further update on the tickets that I raised, though the timing of this weekends episode of one of them was wrong, so 7MC recorded an hour of the film after. Great.
However, there also seems to be an issue with UK data not updating at the moment with everyone's data finishing at the end of the month. Someone has already raised a Connect ticket for this:
connect.microsoft.com/.../uk-guide-data-not-updating
For me, the UK guide is updating but I'm only getting 7 days worth of advance data rather than 14.
UK guide is updating again thankfully. It would be nice to hear WTF went wrong and that steps have been taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.
Credit where credit is due. I've raised a number of tickets recently and have been getting responses. Issues related to a specific programme are usually not fixed in time for the series to finish, but channel level issues are getting addressed.
I raised a handful of wrong channel name issues the other day. Within 24 hours I had a response that the fix would be in the next day's update. It was. That response time exceeds my expectations, so to the anonymous person manning the guide data desk at the moment: Thank you!
I wish I had such luck with the feedback site. My guide data (and a few other from the looks) have stopped updating. Have a ticket open (connect.microsoft.com/.../guide-updates-have-stopped) on the feedback site, and no response. 6 days of guide data left until my system loses its guide.
I have 2 wmc7 machines. One has all the guide listings. The other has only local listings (3,5,8,etc.) but none of the digital cable listings. I keep a guide dowload error when I try to update. I'm on time warner cable BTW.

It sounds like you may have picked the wrong guide/tuner type during setup. As this doesn't sound like a guide data issue, you would be best starting your own thread.

I'm down to 8 days of Guide data. Runs through 4/19. Anybody else seeing update issues (again)?
Yes. The monkey that pushes the update button hasn't returned from holiday, and Microsoft hasn't figured out how to automate the process.
Different holiday weekend, but same old problem...
