I hope that you chaps talk to ATI and nVidia and that the people you do speak to are the right ones for "feature requests" or additions to their roadmaps.
Could you ask them to consider adding HDMI-CEC features to their HDMI enabled products, please, or perhaps give us an idea of what they have in store?
I notice Toshiba (with ATi) have latops that mention HDMI-CEC in the specification...
You might then consider adding HDMI-CEC on/off/select source to Windows/MCE at some point in the future, or you might not...
Sorry for the lame bump, but I am very interested in this topic.
I have yet to find any video card which will support CEC. I have posted this request in nVidia forums with no reply.. So I am not holding my breath.
The protocol seems to be hardware controlled through specific HDMI pins so I do not think there will be a "homebrewed" software solution.
I hope ATI and nvidia comes to their senses and supports such function.
makrygerI've been hoping for this for a while, but no such luck.
The picture above shows what is possible with a little soldering and warranty voiding .
If you're like me, you dream of the day that your whole entertainment center is plug and play and you can ditch those IR emitter things. Well, the software is in the works, but as Macryger mentioned, the hardware has been available from RainShadowTech as the HDMI-CEC to USB Bridge. You can actually buy one from the RainShadowTech Contact page, which is what I did a few months back, just ask for the "HTPC edition". These things are external black boxes, but they are small enough to just mount internally, although you might need to make a few cables. I'm really shocked that major video card makers or HTPC builders have not integrated this yet. My prediction is that as volume of such devices goes up, price will come down, and most people will switch over to CEC as it becomes the defacto standard in new AV equipment. How many people are interested in this?
If you want to see CEC in use, check my blog post Controlling Volume…
Look Ma, no extra Wires!
Also, I'd love to hear what people want to do with CEC... control MCE with your TV remote? Standby/Wake up components? Control volume? Something else?
