So my question is who is sick of their media center not working, and does not want to hack their computer to get it to work????

I'm missing channels, that show up just fine with my converter box. My $20 converter box gets this right. Wonder why my expensive "Media Center" can't.

Oh and....how do I get the channels that are available to be recognized without hacking some obscure file and not have duplicates entries for my guide listings? Isn't the info for the channel broadcasted live? Why is my guide listings wrong when I add channels through media center?

Is it wrong to ask for it to be able to find channels as good as my converter box does?

That's the least of my problems.  Mine studders and crashes.  Tonight I got a blank green screen. Never saw that before.  Seems like te things wrong with this thing are almost unlimited.

    ouch.

But look on the bright side. Once you get that fixed you'll still have the whole other problem of getting it to work right :)

You wait, and no it's not wrong to be upset about it.  It's been fairly obvious that MS couldn't give two <shoots> about Media Center at the moment, we're all messed up, it's not just you.  For now you hack the file, deal with it, complain about it, and wait for MS to decide what they want to actually do or not do with this software.

It's 100% unacceptable what has happened with VMC and this transition.  Even if they weren't ready for the first one in February, they've had 4 months to figure it out from 100% public information.  It sucks.  We complain.  They either don't care or don't have the skillset to fix their own software.  We move on with our lives and laugh at the complete and total incompetance of the people that run this program.  MS if you're listening, yes, I mean YOU, whomever you are, you're just bad at your job, please let someone with a clue take over? PLEASE?

Be thankful that the original February 2009 date didn't happen, at least we're in the Summer season OTA now and not much worth watching/recording is even on (at least in my area, anyway).  Consider the level of pissed-off-ed-ness that would have been achieved if this took place when it was supposed to.

It's a train wreck.  They f***ed it up.  We know.  The moment something better actually comes along, each and every one of us is jumping ship.  Until then, we deal, or just go do something else for a couple weeks. We could probably use the exercise :)

Sorry if this is somewhat obnoxious sounding, but seriously ... we know the ball was dropped.  Nothing we post here is going to change anything.  Pretty much every market is screwed up and you're not alone.  Misery loves company, so welcome to the club, and please don't forget to pay your monthly dues ... lol ... payable to "djp952 who hath ranted on TGB too often".

After all these years, guess who wasn't ready for the big DT? That's right, Microsoft!

It's ridiculous. Channels just seem to come and go... with no rhyme or reason! I could understand the channels reverting to there VHF slots, but UHF channels that never moved? Really?

Don't bother hacking the file... did that this afternoon... everything was good until I got a notice that my recording failed due to lack of signal! #@$$@#%$&$^$@#^#%!@$#!

And can someone tell me why I get the message "PLEASE WAIT Searching for Tuners" WTF?

For those of you who have stutter, or no signal, I was lucky and this worked. After I performed the "adjustment" to get the channels working I tested the signal. I also had two with bad signal strength for some reason. I went to the DTV antenna signal strength (settings > TV > ...) and had to let it go through four passes before it took the channels. Once that was done, they came in fine and all shows recorded tonight. Also, while I had my FM tuner working this morning, it no longer works now. Not sure if there is an "adjustment" to make that work.

My system did record the one program I had set up last night. I expect issues as (if?) this gets ironed out.  We can thank Obama for delaying the switchover until the summer rerun season (I can't think of anything else to thank him for).

Thank you everyone for the sound off. It really does help knowing that I'm not alone. It depresses me to think that some have been voicing their cry for help and have just been ignored.

Sad thing is, I'm not a Windows hater. But I will take serious consideration the next time I buy another compy, and also the next time I suggest one.

Since I may have to resort to hacking, might as well try a version of one of Linux's media centers on my virtualbox. Any recommendations?

I had issues with my MCE2005 that were exasperated by the DTV switchover that required a total system rebuild and then ran into issues because channels that didn't change channel numbers came up wrong in MCE on setup. I had to delete atscprefs xml entries for those bad channels and monkey around with adding the primary channels as subchannels back in the MCE GUI and then mapping guide info from the local cable provider to those channels. The average Joe out there is probably pulling their hair out. This definitely not what the average end-user should have to do. Why didn't Microsoft release some kind of basic standalone DTV transition app that easily allows the user to manually change the RF channels for your local broadcaster's channel changes on 6/12/09 ?

Seems Vista MCE folks actually have it worse. :(

Its not like this was unexpected.

The Feb shutdown worked this way. The April shutdown worked this way, and now the June shut down did the same. You'd have thought someone would have learned a lesson with the previous two shutdowns, but I guess not.

I'm in this boat. It seems to me it'd work a whole lot better if MC didn't assume it was right. It would be nice if it would actually scan the channels and find the signals, find the channels, and then let us tell it what they are. I've lost my CBS and ABC stations because they switched. MC keeps checking where they're "supposed" to be and just thinks "Out of range" and doesn't bother checking for signals that aren't supposed to be in my range.
