    OK ,

These seem to be bugs I am getting in Windows 7 RTM x86 ON CLEAN BUILD with no other apps and ONLY Windows 7 drivers (most except Realtek are out of box):

     1. Random Audio Error 80010100 - Previously fixed in Vista under KB941234

    2. On 1:1 1080p with no TV Overscan turned enabled on Plasma, random graphics corruption from previous menus down vertical of right hand side of screen. Existed under Vista despite hotfix to make better

    3. Intel Graphics 965G - When using registry run key to run Media Center the taskbar gets stuck over bottom of media center after Auto Login, and is in primary focus instead of Media Center !!

        eg. C:\Windows\Ehome\Ehshell.exe /nostartupanimation /noshutdownui /mediamode /widescreen

These switches aren't available by selecting autostart Windows Media Center in Media Center GUI, and its better this way as after the "Welcome" screen it should fade down and up to Media Center GUI so you dont see explorer task bar

Even tried latest Intel Graphics Drivers.

UPDATE: It's ONLY an issue if you use SOLID COLORS like BLACK as your background INSTEAD of an image as wallpaper. Using an image, and the taskbar does not get stuck !

    4. Dolby Digital - Seems to be one setting in Media Center and another in Media Player

    5. Random Long delays playing H264 video (MP4 or M4V) - like 60 seconds. Have defragged disk, even using Raxco Perfect Disk 10 and still get delays. Plays OK when Media Center first built but after you add new videos to your library it crops up. Deleted library and did a rescan and still same issue. Stare at blank blue background and eventually the video plays !!!

    6. Occasionally, the music wall has no cover art and just default patterns as cover art - doesn't happen that often

I get these errors on various high spec kit, and different systems.

    7. Microsoft did something in RTM which has broken Heatwave plugin. Worked fine in Beta and RC 7100 builds.

    8. Incorrect Widescreen switching on Live TV (any graphics), ignores AFD.

Anyone else got bugs they have found ?

Sleep problems: Hybrid sleep quite unreliable. Basic S3 sleep not totally reliable. Wakes up dead in middle of night and found crashed in the morning with black screen signal to telly and flashing HDD light.

Running ATI graphics, using autostart option in media center launches under the task bar on first boot.

When stopping a recorded TV show, if you select delete too fast there is still a lock on the file so you have to wait a couple of seconds and try again.

No signal from HVR-1100 after a couple of days sleeping/waking. Reboot cures temporarily.

Windows 7 split a couple of music albums from my collection into about 5 albums each with 2 songs in each! grr.

Softer looking MPEG2 decoder (can't prove, subjective opinion)

Audio takes a bit longer to kick in when changing channels.

Yep - I reported the Heatwave issue also. Nice they can take an RC and make this many incompatibilities for the RTM - I have tested Windows OSs since Win95, and never saw this many issues between RC and RTM. I think there is an issue with autologon in RTM also. Using the Systernals Autologon program, it worked fine on every build of W7 I used it on - now it doesn't work with RTM - WTF?? And this is an MS program (since they bought out Systernals because they saw the possibility of competition!) Here's a thread on it:

No the sysinternals autologon DEFINATELY does work [at least on Professional and Ultimate]

You have to run as Administrator and make sure domain box is BLANK if you are not on a domain. I am using it.

Dont use SOLID COLORS as background though as the taskbar gets stuck in focus. You HAVE to use a wallpaper image for the taskbar to disapear when MC autoruns after autologin !

I had emailed Stephen Sinofsky about it directly so hopefully after his brief reply his team will look at it.

  •

OK - I'll try again, but I did all this (except keep domain box blank - I AM on a domain!)

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 32-bit, and while I am positive that Win7 as an OS is several steps up from Vista, I'm afraid it's equally several steps down in point of view of Media Center (I was previously running Vista 32 bit without TV pack).

IMHO All of the "new" innovations with 7MC are just eye-candy.

Here's a (non) exhaustive list of my dislikes of 7MC (not Win 7 itself):

    1. The photos screensaver as well as the album waterfall are nice, but the screensaver breaks S3 sleep!

    2. The new synopsis screen is nice to look at and granted I no longer have the annoying Vista bug of it not displaying all metadata, but to access any functions while watching recorded or Live TV it involves more button presses.

    3. When watching a show live that I am recording I can no longer find a way of stopping the recording early! In Vista I would press "info" on my remote and select "Stop Recording", this option is no longer available (or I cannot find it!). I now stop LiveTV and start the recording. At end of watching (before recording finishes) I select "delete" and anwswer yes to the blurb "still recording are you sure?". A pain to be sure!

    4. Not all movies are downloaded in Movies Guide when selecting a Director or Actor (see my lengthy post http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/t/77358.aspx
    5. Sorry, but I don't like the new mini-guide; yes its nice to see what's on next but its also counterintuitive-scrolling down to go up channels. With Vista I would get synopsis and I could change scrolling behaviour with simple reg hack.

    6. Changing the way Media Center stores and handles recording schedule in such a way that with a fresh install of Win 7, Vista users without TV pack cannot migrate their old recording schedules (and boy, did that take a long time to recreate manually!)

    7. Changing recorded TV format between versions so that they are now non-backwards compatible; sure there's the WTV to DVRMS right-click feature, but I've got about 50-odd WTV format recordings to convert!!!

    8. How 7MC pops up the time and channel when it stops recording a programme you're currently watching; very annoying!

    9. One good thing I like is that music quality sounds improved when playing my mp3's, although this just could be totally subjective!!!

All other core functions and menus in 7MC seem identical to VMC. I'm in the UK and connect my HTPC to my SKY STB via composite to a Hauppauge 150MCE so I have no problem with ATSC and clear QAM problems that seem to bug our colonial cousinsSmile

I would also argue despite Win 7 using Media Foundation with EVR, I cannot see any picture quality improvement for LiveTV over Vista.

I'm seriously thinking of ditching Windows 7 and re-installing Vista as I only use the OS on my HTPC for Media Center. It's a shame really, because VMC was such an improvement over MCE2005 (although it had it's share of faults) and I was hoping for some major innovations in 7MC. It seems that MS didn't put the work in with 7MC.Sad

But you cannot get HD video your way - clear QAM can provide HD video.

And what about the 200x200 album art issue that's been talked about to death?  Will 7MC finally stop trying to overwrite my high res artwork (usually 500x500 or better) with that low-res version?

Granted, I accept that I cannot get HD by connecting via a STB, but I don't have an SKYHD STB, so no problems there! It's all SD in the tollanarama household (except for the Blurays, you understand!!!)

The new synopsis screen displays after each divx/avi movie I look at. I dont that, i want to be able to press next and see the next episode like in TVpack, bug or config?

The Teletext bug reported for TV-pack remains, bug

7MC also changes the guidelist little now and then as it sees fitt. Reported as bug for Tvpack and it remains, Bug

S3 suspend/resume issues. Worked nicly from the beginning but some update broke it, No manual installs on the box, only Windows update and media center update features running

This sucks totally. Going back to Vista.

Yesterday  at 10am the Windows 7 RTM media center stuffed up while my wife was home looking after our sick child. She couldn't get it going again. I got home and got blasted. Vista RTM worked well out of the box, Win7 RTM is a steaming pile. Everytime she attempted to play recorded or live TV this was happening:

Faulting application name: ehshell.exe, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp:
    0x4a5bccdc
Faulting module name: msmpeg2vdec.dll, version: 6.1.7140.0, time stamp:
    0x4a5bdaaa
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x00190001
    Faulting process id: 0x%9
    Faulting application start time: 0x%10
    Faulting application path: %11
    Faulting module path: %12
    Report Id: %13

Then I came home at 5 and rebooted it, it went okish, however starting live TV would freeze TV until a skip back was pressed. Cat woke me up at 4am to tell me the media center was on, got up and put it back to sleep. Got up at 6am and it was awake again. powercfg -lastwake was showing mcupdate. I expect it will be on again when I get home.
Could be ATIs fault, could be microsoft's, I don't really care, I'm totally fed up.

Try "info", then "OK", then "stop recording".  It goes back to your #2, more buttons to press.

Thanks, funny I never found that option-must have given up after the thenth button press to accomplish something I used to do in Vista with one button press!!!!Wink

Well after considering the hassles of converting all the WTV files to DVR-MS I haven't been able to face going back to VMC. Got another crash today:
