.m2ts VC-1 playback

I have a ripped BluRay movie in an .m2ts file that I was able to play perfectly using Win 7 RC. Now with the RTM it doesn't play properly. The video is encoded as VC-1 and audto as AC3. I have installed AC3 filter to get audio working. When I play the movie in 7MC I get audio (through spdif) but no video. The screen goes black as if it is trying to play something but I see no picture. I have noticed that Haali fires up though.

I though playback of VC-1 was native in windows 7. Is this the case?

Shoul Haali be running when I try to play this file? Is this the problem?

What do I need to do to be able to play VC-1 encoded video? I must be able to use DXVA since one of my media center pcs uses an Intel Atom CPU/Nvidi ION GPU combination.

    Any advise welcome.

    Thanks

    Ben

VC-1 is native in Windows 7 and I can verify it works. When you installed Haali Splitter did you 1- Install the W7 version? It is not publicly available on his site, the link is http://haali.net/mkv/mkx.y.9.exe; 2- disable shell extensions; 3- uncheck mp4? Shark 007 has mentioned that the public version of Haali (MatroskaSplitters.exe) will permanently prevent VC-1 from working in W7. I haven't seen this behavior myself but I've always installed the W7 version, but again I haven't done additional troubleshooting to verify.

Shark 007 has mentioned that the public version of Haali (MatroskaSplitters.exe) will permanently prevent VC-1 from working in W7.

To clarify, using the public release of Haali (MatroskaSplitter.exe), permanently TAKES OVER the native AVCHD decoding and removing that software leaves your system broken and does not re-instate the native decoding. In my testing the only way to get native decoding working again is to start with a clean install of the OS. Also know, all codecpack releases, cccp, Klite etc (except my releases) , install that version of Haali leaving you broken upon uninstall.

The alpha release Windows 7 version of Haali's software, linked to by mikinho, as far as I can tell ,is safe to use but will not correct the damage done by the installation of Haali's (MatroskaSplitter.exe).

Use Shark007 codecs and retain your sanity.

    Shark007,

If I un-install Haali and do a repair installation of Windows 7 will this work?

    mikinho,

The link you posted does not work ?

I believe Haali's webpage is down at the moment. You can find a mirror download at http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/05/finding-haalis-x64-splitter-beta.html or Shark's W7 Pack includes it.

    Shark007,

If I un-install Haali and do a repair installation of Windows 7 will this work?

I have not tested the proposed repair.

Fixing other peoples blunders is not high on my todo list. I just make sure I am not the cause.

    I have now re-installed win 7 32-bit. I tried some avchd (m2ts) files and several don't work.

I  have now installed AC3Filter and Shark007 1.3.1. Some files now play, but still no luck with anything with video encoded as VC-1.

For example, the following don't play in WMP:

    The Ruins.m2ts: VC1 (AP@L23), AC-3: Sound but no video

Valkyrie: AVC, DTS: Video but no sound

The Kingdom: VC-1 (AP@L3), DTS: No audio or video

    The following do play:

    Harry potter 1.mkv: AVC, AC-3

    Harry potter 2.mkv: VC-1, FLAC

So it looks like VC-1 stuff play from within an .mkv file but not from inside an .m2ts /AVCHD file.

    What gives?

    Thanks

    Ben

    I have now re-installed win 7 32-bit.

If this was a clean install of Windows 7 (not a repair or upgrade), I'll attempt to assist you on my forums beacause that is where this exchange of information belongs.

If this was some attempt at repairing a damaged system beacaue you had previously installed MatroskaSplitter.exe, there is no help available to you.

Use Shark007 codecs and retain your sanity.

I have never got m2ts files with VC-1 content to play in any version of 7MC. I don't install codec packs. I believe only m2ts files with AVC content (AVCHD) is natively supported n 7MC. I do find it strange considering VC-1 is a microsoft codec and won't play in 7MC when wrapped in a m2ts. I just get a black screen with audio.

This thread slowed for a bit, but I have a lot of BluRay/HDDVD Rips that are VC-1 in a .m2ts container.  I'm running W7 64bit and hate codec packs. Is there any hope for me with or without installing a codec pack?  Any tips are appreciated and I'm desperate.
