I've been having issues relating to the subject title for a while.
Two PCs ... #1 and #2. #1 is W7 Ultimate 64-bit; #2 is W7 Pro 32-bit.
Individually, #1 and #2 can record TV (cable, over the air, Clear QAM) and everything indexes perfectly - again - on the individual machines - full meta data. However, on the networked media center, either one depending on which recorded, only a thumbnail with the actual file name appears - no meta data. In the past, the only way I could get the meta data to appear was to remove the media library from the machine that did not have the metadata, and re-add the media library. This would properly index the metadata.
Yesterday I stumbled on something interesting. If I recorded a show to a different directory then where I normal do, one that is not shared, and then manually moved the finished recording to the normal shared directory, the networked media center saw and properly indexed the metadata.
So, the scheme I have come up with now, is to record to a non-shared directory, and use File Mover 1.9 to automatically move the recorded show, once it's done, to the shared directory, and it shows up fine - thumbnail, metadata, title ... the whole shabang.
Now, while this works, it seems strange that the networked media centers get stuck on the initial file name (meta data is not available until after the recording is finished), and does not automatically "re-scan" the file for all the metadata info once the recording is done. I can't believe this is a bug - it's too obvious.
Can anyone else chime in with their experiences?
two machines cannot record to the same directory. It confuses mediacenter because they each maintain a database of recored tv.
use two separate directories and add each as an additional recored TV directory. This is what i do.
You will need to remeber which shows are recorded on which machine and only delete them through that machine, or the database wont update and it will keep trying to record the same shows over and over.
I have the same issue. I record on one PC and share the Recoded TV folder so that another PC can see it. The second PC doesn't show meta data for some recordings.
I have the same problem. Multiple Win7 Media Centers all recording to their own local Recorded TV directories, shared to all other Media Center boxes and the MetaData is ususally (but not 100% always??) missing from the shows that are not stored locally.
This is REALLY annoying, even more so because my wife doesn't understand why some shows ared "grouped", even though I've tried to explain 3-4 times. Has anyone solved this yet?
I find it VERY odd that a reboot of both boxes will not solve the issue. This was my Vista Media Center hack. All Media Centers re-booted about 4am so that all the shows recorded the previous day was available to all.
I thought that this was supposed to be on of those things "fixed" in Win7. Yet the fix seems to be half-a**ed.
