Windows Live Photo Gallery allows the attachment of hierarchical tags.  I've uploaded a sample file to skydrive, with lots of metadata.  Inspecting the file with an EXIF/IPTC/XMP tool I can see that the WLPG tags are saved as IPTC Keyword Tags.

Flat keywords, in this example "Christmas Slideshow" show up in Media Center as expected.

Hierarchical tags, in this example "Events/Christmas" do not.

I would have expected to happen is at a minimum MC would treat "Events/Christmas" as a unique tag.  The better way to parse these tags would be to select just the lowest-level tag (in this case "Christmas") for inclusion in the tags list in the MC photo browser.

    Sample: http://cid-3323acf37bd7b107.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/MC7%20Troubleshooting/ChristmasDay%20001.jpg

Is this a known issue?  Any update expected to resolve the incompatibility with the current release?

    Thanks

I have a more basic problem i wanted some help on. No one here responded to my query so i wanted to ask you....sorry for the thread hijack

I can't seem to get 7MC to recognize new tags i create for photos in windows explorer. Also 7MC doesnt seem to flush the tag cache at all - i can delete photos or remove them completely from the machine and the tags tab within pictures +videos still shows the tags with "file not found".

How do i delete the 7MC tag cache?

How do i get 7MC to recognize newly created tags (i think the two are somehow related).

I am running 7MC HP 64 bit. I also have Media Browser and YAMMM running (could this be causing havoc?)

They do for me.  When browsing by tags you should see "Events" at the top.  When you select "Events" it should take to the next level and show you "Christmas" and any other tags "under" Events in the hierarchy.

Well what do you know?  Works here now too.  I suspect there must have been an indexing delay of some sort after re-doing all of my tags.  Nevermind (and thanks for testing it for me)!

    Hi Hari

Did you ever find out how to delete the 7MC pictures cache? I'm having a similar issue with picture ratings. Very irritating!

    Thanks

Nope. And it seems to be bug that very few people seem to have. Wonder if its a X64 thing or some application we are running.

I don't have x64. i'm wondering if there are old Vista MC cache files lying around my photo collection that are confusing 7MC.

Will have a look over the weekend.

Hmm - i didnt do an upgrade - clean install of Win7 X64 - so the cache files you are referring to must reside in the photo folders itself. Is there such a thing ?

  •

I also clean installed so am wondering if there are cache files in the actual folders like there are for music.

Do you happen to know if the db files in the ehome appdata directory also contain any picture metadata?

I found a way to delete the cache: http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microsoft/windows-7/how-to-rebuild-your-windows-media-player-12-library/ It solves the problem for me although it's slightly onerous.
