I'm sorry to ask this question as I know it has been asked a few times here and on other sites but I seem to be getting conflicting answers.  I am in the process of building a htpc to play my very large collection of Blu-Ray and DVD's I ripped into MP4 H 264 files (used Ripbot).  Currently on my Vista PC all my rips play perfectly through the Media Browser extension / add on (or whatever its called) in Windows Vista Media Center.  Should I expect any problems in Windows 7 Media Center / Media Browser?  I've seen some posts about Windows 7 Media Center having problems with H 264 playback.  To be fair most of the comments concerned mkv containers and were posted prior to the offical release of 7 during beta testing.  I havn't opened my Windows 7 copy yet and I'm getting a little nervous about throwing this all together and having playback issues as I mentioned everything seems to running well in my Vista setup.  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks for your time.

I wouldn't expect any problems with h.264 playback in general - if you are running an ati card then you may run into the ati-dxva problem that is happening with h.264 video though.

You can always turn off dxva (as I have done - this way the cpu decodes full hd 1080p .mkv files using the built in codecs without issue (like I did with vista using coreavc) - you just need a splitter such as haali).

I would give it a go - do a backup first, but if vista is playing back h.264 files ok , then win7 should be good to go.

    Rob.
