I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I don't think it's a coincidence that all these reps just happen to be very stern on disallowing CableCARDs in PCs.  I mean, they wouldn't randomly default to that unless they had a big meeting, memo, or whatever that said "under any circumstances, TRY to convince the customer that he can't have a CableCARD in his PC."  Man, if they were stupid enough to put it on writing, imagine if an angry Comcast CSR rep leaked it.  Oh boy.  That just makes me smile.

I just told them I was putting them in a Tivo and it wasn't a big deal... they clearly will not help debug your MCE set up, but it wasn't much trouble.

I don't think that they'd know how, anyways.  But, that's what we're here for.  ;)

That said, they can still debug signal level/quality problems.

Jeremy, we are a computer/AV company building a new media PC to sell and integrate.  Will your Ceton MOCUR cards work with Windows 7 in Media Center?  Will we be able to run two Ceton MOCUR cards and have dual tuner functionality in W7MC?

     Thank you for your time.

It's a quad tuner card so I don't think you really need two of them.  I don't even know if Windows will support 8 tuners.  The Ceton MOCUR will work with Windows 7 Media Center as far as I know.

I think they demo'ed 8 tuners at CES or somewhere else.  With the AEP I think they definitely can do 8 tuners with 2 cards.

Our card ONLY works with Windows 7. Vista is not supported. Since our card is a Quad tuner, using 2 of them would result in 8 tuners, not dual. If you want to support more than 4 tuners you need to have the AEP license from Microsoft.

     All...

If you ever have a complaint with comcast, there is one simple method that works. You get the corporate headquarter's office for comcast and call. Ask for "Executive Complaint Team". You will get someone who will take your information and pass it onto to a customer advocate in your city. That person's job is to answer your complaint and file a case back with executive offices. Comcast hates when people use this process but it works.

My general experience with Comcast customer service has been very positive. Even when they took forever to get out and bury my cable line running along the surface of my backyard, and I inevitably ran it over with the lawn mower, they came out and replaced it without hesitation or charge.

I can guarantee you the CableCARDs from Comcast work just fine in the upcoming Ceton MOCUR. In fact, I use Comcast at my own home.  If you have any issues getting a CableCARD for our device from your provider let us know and we will make sure you get one.  I will do it myself if needed.

Jeremy - I was just told by zone.com that my Ceton card should be here on Monday.  I called Comcast today to setup the install and Comcast told me they would not do it.  He told me they would only put them in Cable Card TV's or Tivos.  When arguing with him he actually told me that it was because Comcast gets a kickback from Tivo for each card the have in a Tivo and Microsoft is not paying them.  As such they don't make any money by letting consumers use them in a Media Center PC so Comcast was not allowing it.  Period.  I asked to speak with a supervisor and was put on hold, then he came back and told me that the supervisor told him the same thing.  I asked to speak to the supervisor again and was told they would have to call me back.  Needless to say I'm not happy with Comcast right now, but this is the solution I want.  While I could live with DirecTV or Dish, I need the cable Internet, not DSL - plus the Ceton card fits my needs and wants exactly.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I just got through working with someone who treated customers the same way.  They have their little corner of the world and they will say anything to sound like some expert to the paying customer.  This person was full of it and I hope you got his name.  I wouldn't blame Comcast so much for this one.  Many people have written on here that Comcast is actually the easiest company to deal with when it comes to CableCards.  Unfortunately it's a big company and it's going to have big company problems.  So I really hope you got that dude's name!!!  Q.

I don't know how many times its been said- but here it goes again. a) It is ILLEGAL for any cable company not to provide a cablecard when requested. Illegal. Did you tell him that? b) Tell him its a TiVo. In the end, they don't care where the card ends up, as long as they are able to communicate with it. All you have to do is get the cable guy to come with the cablecard, and then if the cable guy says he can't put it in, ask him just to try it to see if it works.

I did tell him it was illegal and he laughed at me and told me I didn't know what I was talking about.  I thought about calling back and telling them it will be a tivo, but the guy I spoke with (no I didn't get his name) told me that even if he put in Tivo and sent the tech out that the tech would not install it or hand it to me if it wasn't really going into a Tivo.

Your corner of the world sounds like it sucks. I would hope you had read about some experiences people have had on here. You are in the driver's seat on this one. I'll bet if you talk about cancelling your Comcast with one of their sales type people, you will get some real help. It's a shame you didn't get that dude's name. What he said about Comcast and Tivo kickbacks was completely made up. Comcast hates Tivo but the law says they have to support CableCard and they do support it fully. You let some power-hungry jerk give you the run-around. Q.

I'll be calling them again, but it will be a recorded call next time.  I'll either do it from work on Monday, or bring my recording device home for a bit tomorrow.
