Any of you guys have your HTPC set to sleep straight to S4? With my new SSD, resuming from S4 is almost as fast as S3. I'm thinking of removing true "standby" altogether and just going to "hibernate". Anything I should be aware of? Does "away mode" still work if I do this?
Isn't hibernate s4?
I think away mode still works as usual.
I know a few people have better luck using s4 rather than s3 - I think the blank screen on resume bug is one reason some people are skipping s3 and going straight to hibernate.

Are you referring to hybrid mode as S5? If so, then it should be just as fast as S3 on a resume, unless power has been lost. In that case it's the same as a resume from hibernate.

Hmmm, yeah you're right. (Still recovering from the Superbowl!). My BIOS threw me off, it has options for "resume from S5" but those options also work for S4. It looks like S5 is power off.

I tried using hibernate (S4) on Vista, but on Vista it has one serious flaw -- if MC is currently recording a programme when you hibernate the system, the recording stops immediately!. In contrast, if you put the system to sleep (S3), the video output switches off immediately, but the system continues recording, and powers down when the recording finishes. Windows 7 may be different.
