Anyone using the HP ProCurve J9077A? I am currently having a lot of network issues and think it's just my switch not being up to the task. I have heard a lot of good things about the 24 port version in the 1400 series of ProCurve switches. I don't need anywhere near 24 ports so I am hoping it's baby brother, the 8-port J9077A, will be more up to the task. I think the issue lay with running 2 HDHomeRuns and also running 2 extenders, and a MS HomeServer moving all these huge HD files around. Most of my problems happen when I am recording multiple HD shows and watching another. Any thoughts?

Like one of the reviews on newegg says: it's one of the best 8-port GB switches you can buy.

I don't use them at home, but do in a business environment and never have issues.

I also believe mikhino here at TGB swears by them going off of a post I have seen from him before. 

Ok, I am definitely going to go with a ProCurve but now I am deciding between the J9077A or the J9449A There are a couple of differences. The J9449A is a Managed switch and has 512K packet buffer, while the J9077A is unmanaged and has a 144K packet buffer. I just want the switch to handle the traffic from 2 HDHomeRuns, Streaming Hulu, and Streaming to 2 Extenders, plus any other internet related tasks at the same time. Currently we have network issues with the switch we have now.  If you have to ask, you likely don't need the additional features of a managed switch.  I would expect the unmanaged one to be fine for your needs.

Yeah you are probably right. I just wanted to make sure I am not making a big mistake by not going to with the larger buffer of the managed switch.

Go with the J9077A. I do swear by them in terms of unmanaged switches. The one caveat is that this switch can overload crappy NICs. Make sure you install the latest manufacturer drivers, never leave the WIndows Update drivers when dealing with network cards. I have 3x J9077A and J9078A. The only bad reviews of either switch has been due to poor network cards.

It's Done. I just placed my order for the J9077A. Thanks for the help. I have an Intel Nic with the latest drivers. Hopefully I should be all set.
