I don't get what's going on. I have several PCs, all Win 7, and Zune and all other programs (like explorer) can see the Windows Home Server libraries just fine. But WMC isn't seeing the HOme Server at all when I'm trying to add the video library (I have a few DVD burns copied in there, playing them fine with TMT3)
I've installed the connector - did I miss a step?
Also, for god's sakes, why does it take like 10 minutes for WMC to find the home server? All other PC apps can see the home server immediately, I have a Cat 6 ethernet network... I bought this home server for a high speed media server. So far the WMC integration has been pathetic.
Home Server seems to be extremely flakey. I just purchased today the HP 495 unit (1.5 terabyte) and while compelling, it's been extremely frustrating to setup for our family PCs. Everyone can see media content, then without warning, nothing can see any of the volumes. I get wierd errors like the user account is locked out -
Am I supposed to configure each machine to log in with a different user account on the Home Server? How do I configure that? It seems to be connecting automatically when it can, I might have used one of the accounts and clicked on the checkbox to 'save password' - if you have to be unique with each machine, how do I config that on each machine? (to remove the cached credential)
EDIT> Solved this. I was selecting 'other computer' and waiting for browse - sometimes after 5-10 mins would find the home server, sometimes not. Figured out you need to manually insert the server path (choose manual config or whatever the option name is) then enter \\(yourhomeservername)\videos for instance, then account and password).
Wow. I'm an MCSE network engineer and this was not intuitive. I can't imagine home users ever figuring this out.
thx
Hmm. Well, that's what I was expecting -
Did you turn security down to absolute minimum? By default, it's set at medium and requires a password with rules that must include letters non-punct -
I think this is why the share mapping didn't work for me, but mapping manually with the \\server\share location and providing the acct/password is working.
Still seeing wierdness between OS mapping, WMC media library locations and Zune with the 'videos' and 'movie' locations. I wanted to separate them (for home/family and movie libraries) and while WMC supports this, the OS and Zune don't. You get one association only with them.
