I've been using two ATI CableCards on my Dell XPS420 for over a year. I upgraded to WIN7 last night and now the tuners aren't recognized by media center. They show up under Network Devices in Device Manager, but with an exclamation point over them like they have a driver issue. The only choice to solve the issue is to search for updated drivers. This fails on the PC. I tried downloading the firmware again from ATI's site, but that fails b/c it says it can't locate any digital tuners on my box. I can't find a reference to this type of issue anywhere. I've screwed with firewall settings, rebooted a bunch, tried rebooting the tuners, etc.
One additional strange thing is that both of the LEDs on each tuner are green. I find that strange since Media Center says that it can't find any tuners.
Any ideas guys? I'm stuck.
Have you tried right-clicking on the tuners in device manager and choose uninstall? Try that and afterwards power cycle the tuners to have Windows detect them again and hopefully install the driver properly this time. First, make sure you are not running any 3rd-party firewall and get rid of any AV software for now. Once you have the tuners working you can install the free Microsoft Security Essentials for malware protection.

I've tried that a couple of times. I don't have any A/V running. I uninstalled and then plugged them back in, I uninstalled and rescanned, I've uninstalled and rebooted. I get the same error. Windows seems to be telling me that the tuners need a driver update. When I attempt to search online for a new version of the driver, I get a "this is the best driver for this device" message. It's frustrating.
After way too many hours of trying, the following sequence finally worked:
1. IN Device Manager, choose "Uninstall device" for one of the tuners
2. On the prompt to verify you want to install I HAD to check the box "delete the driver" ((this ended up being the CRITICAL piece)
3. Then I uninstalled the other tuner and unplugged the power to both tuners (still connected via USB).
4. I rebooted the PC, waited until I loged in and was done loading, and then
5. Plugged the power back in each tuner.
Voila! Strange but true. I must have uninstalled those bastards 10 times under varying circumstance, but the above sequence finally worked.
Thanks,
BiggieD, sorry I forgot that you have to explicitly tell it to delete the driver when uninstalling. That's essentially the advice I was trying to give you, so that Windows reinstalls a fresh copy of the driver from the driverstore.
