    Short answer: Yes

TVPack was the previous version of Media Center. All of its functionality is included in Windows 7 SKUs that contain Media Center (which from memory is all except the Windows Home Basic version)

TV Pack is a curse word and should not be uttered.  :)  Windows 7 does not contain "TV Pack" but has most of the same parts and benefits.

My preferred term is "'TV Pack' abomination". I think it's clear we're living with the legacy of "TV Pack", along with new development of the same "quality". Unfortunately, unlike the case with Vista, when you reinstall Windows 7, you don't get rid of "TV Pack".

I tried TV Pack when I was running Vista and it was an absolute mess (granted, my PC wasn't on the MS "blessed" list). I eventually gave up on it and switched back to regular Vista MC.

However, since I've updated to Win7 I've had good stability and functionality with all the TV functions. Very little 3rd party software works with the new .wtv format, but then not much worked at first with the old dvrms format either. You can convert wtv to dvrms in file explorer, but that's one more step to mess with. Meanwhile, since nearly all my functionality is self-contained I don't worry too much about the oddball containers. I understand that wtv has to be used to satisfy the "protection" requirements of the media "cartels." "Cartel" is my code word for a term that isn't allowed on TGB that refers to a particular political party that was dominant in Germany around the time of World War II.
