I am extremely disappointed with the truly abysmal performance of the Picture Library in Windows Media Center when displaying pictures by using Tags. Moving from one level to another in the Tag hierarchy can take up to 30 seconds, and in that time, Media Center just freezes. It makes Windows Media Center simply unusable for this purpose.
Admittedly, I have a real collection of images, not just a toy demo collection. I am storing 40,000 photos on a Windows Home Server. These photos are tagged with over 1,600 keywords, arranged in a Tag hierarchy that is up to nine levels deep. This same collection is handled by Windows Live Photo Gallery with ease, performance is not an issue.
Perhaps the developers of Windows Media Center could learn some tricks from their colleagues on the Windows Live Photo Gallery team?
Same for me, performance in picture library when storing them on WHS is just awful. And I just hhave about 3000 pictures around 4 MB in size each. When entering the picture library I have to wait for 2 minutes before all folders have their thumbnails set.
