I am a fresh convert to MC7. I have had a trusty XP MCE (2005) setup for a few years now. I have been archiving my dvd's to a network drive in AVI format. I never had any of the library features that Vista/7 added and am now interested in building the metadata to make my library more useful and informative. Unfortunately as I am new to MC7, i am at a loss on what to do.

My AVI files are currently in the same folder with a few sub folders for multi-movie series. (for example I have all 6 Star Wars movies in one sub folder). I have kept the naming simple over the years, like "Avatar.DVDRip.XviD.avi" just to tell myself the movie, source, and codec info. This configuration worked perfectly for me with XP, but I am totally lossed in the new media center.

I have installed Media Browser and DVRMS Toolbox for my basic setup, I added YAMMM and Meta Video Editor to try and setup the library, but I dont know how to proceed with either of these tools. or if I even can.

Can all you experienced MC7 users tell me what I need to do to accomplish my goal?

    T.Y.

YAMMM should do what you need, but you might need to adjust your file structure. Try C:\Movies\Avatar\Avatar.DVDRip.XviD.avi and then point YAMMM to C:\Movies

why are the subfolders needed? (newb alert)

Media Center expects the folders like that, you'd have to ask Microsoft. So YAMMM reads the folder names, generates the .jpg image and the xml file Media Center expects to find.

so, the first step I should take is to run file2foldergui that I found on the Media Browser website to move my movies into their own sub folders?

ok, so I ran file2foldergui and it created subfolders of: "Movie.DVDrip.XViD" for all my movies a few of my movies have filled in the metadata for the library, but only a few. most are just movies in a subfolder now. Is there something I need to add/change/remove to get this working right? Is there some format to the foldername that should be followed? I found searching through my movies extremely easy with the older setup. Media Center 7 has added many new features that I appreciate, but management of my movie archive is about useless to me thus far.
