Does the USB-UIRT work within Windows 7 Media center for controlling STB?
It should. There are drivers posted on their website for both Vista and Win 7. Here's the link:

I should revise my statement to say that the USB-UIRT is supported under Win 7. I have no idea whether or not it will control a STB within Media Center.
the ehome remote and keyboard use RC6 ir, and the usb uirt sees ir but there isn't currently any free software that will let use use it in WMC that I know of. I would also like it to work. The older versions of girder won t work.
RayKCMO I can not get it to work either.
I can not get it to work either.
I am using usb-uirt and Windows Media Center.
I am using event ghost which has a plugin for usb-uirt. event ghost is similar to girder (but free)
I use keyboard emulation to control windows media center using usb-uirt. So only commands that have a keyboard shortcut or mouse shortcut work for me
(I was looking for a keyboard shortcut for the main menu (or for setup screen) and I dont know how to get there, so came here looking for that)
Also, can someone tell me what the * and pound do? Are these buttons on MCE remote?
I have not tried to make windows understand usb-uirt. (It may be possible, but I dont need to). Eventghost is such a powerful software and it allows me to emit IR signals from usb-uirt. I achieve something similar using eventghost. When I am listening to music on my computer, eventghost tells usb-uirt to send IR signal to change the listening mode on my reciver. When I am watching 7MC, it changes the listening mode on the receiver by sending IR signal from usb-uirt. You can get the results you want by using eventghost.

The keyboard shortcut for the main menu is: Alt+Win+Enter
The mce shortcut keys are listed if you go to windows help and search for: media center keyboard shortcuts
Note: the main menu short cut is incorrect in the help, the Alt and WinLogo key are reversed (how it works on my netbook).
On my gateway mce remote, they are "Clear" and "Enter", when doing tripple-tap for entering text, Clear appears to be Backspace and deletes the last character and Enter works like the Ok button.
My Media Center PC
I am using an older Microsoft branded remote control with IR receiver/blaster. These were not all that expensive, around $30, so if you can find one it may be the way to go as they are plug and play. It might be cheaper to buy one than to spend a lot of time futzing around with the USB-UIRT.
Here is the Newegg info page but they don't seem to have them anymore. Maybe eBay? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880100851
I have also been using Beyondtv before and the USB-UIRT works absolutely perfect here, but i want to use WMC7 instead of Beyondtv4 as it does not support DVB-T signals. I use the Hauppauge HD-PVR as recorder unit fra STB (sattelite HD reciever) BTW VERY nice picturequality. BUT it is not possible to get the IRblaster from hauppauge to work in W7 and MC7. Hauppauge knows it but ignore the problem i think. I would REALLY like someone to tell me a way to get the USB-UIRT to work form WMC7. I cant...tried a lot..eventgoest can do some of it but keyboard commands cant get MC to change channel in the middle of the night automatic. Some nice software like Hauppauge IRblaster setup is needed for making a link form MC7 to USB-UIRT to STB. I can not do this..;-(
