I am having an issue with the HVR 1250 stuttering for lack of a better word.  The video plays smoothly but the video jumps up and down, or shakes.  It is most noticeable on the TV icon in the lower right hand corner.  It is also very noticeable when watching animated programs, Simpsons, family guy, etc.

I have installed, unistalled, reinstalled the drivers letting Win 7 do it automatically, and from the website.  I have installed the MCE pack from Hauppauge (which I would not think that I have to do as I am only using clear QAM)

I am wondering if the card is going bad, or is bad.  Does anyone else have any issue similar to this?

I am really struggling with this card.  I use to get a lot of bit rate to low with Vista, and other issue with the sound.  All of those seem to be fixed but the stutter, or jumping of the video is really annoying.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA

What you describe has nothing to do with your tuner card.  What it sounds like is de-interlacing bob effect.  You don't mention what video card you are using but this is where you need to take a look.  See if you can change your de-interlacing type to Vector Adaptive (VA) or Motion Adaptive (MA) if supported by your video card.  Do not use BoB or Weave.

Im sorry about that. This is my first post on this forum and I forgot that I did not have a signature. (Thanks for the help)

    Machine specs are:

    Win7 Home Premium

    Acer 3200x (Nvidia 8200 Mobo/Chipset)

    Nvidia 9400 GT (1 Gb)

    Hauppauge HVR 1250

    4 Gigs Ram

    S-video to Projection TV.

I do not have any other issues except with Live TV through the tuner.  DVD's, and all other files work well.

I will look into this.  Right now I am outputing 480i 1024x 768 Res to the TV through the S-video.  ( It does not make a difference whether its output at480i  800x600 )

The only thing I have been able to find in regards to Deinterlacing is a check box that says "use inverse telecine" It was unchecked"  I will check it and see what happens.  cant hurt!  I will report back.

I am afraid I don't have an Nvidia card so I can't help you with where the settings might be.  To make sure I understand you correctly, you receive a clear QAM signal and then output an analog signal to your TV?  This is unusual.  I assume there is no way for you to connect digitally to your TV (DVI or HDMI)?  Regardless, the tuner card only receives the digital signal, there is no other function it performs so that is not where the problem lies, it just passes the already mpeg compressed signal to your media center.  It's either the software decoder (assuming you are using  the 7MC mpeg2 decoder built-in) unlikely, or your video card drivers (more likely).  The video card is responsible for converting the digital video to analog and outputting it through s-video to your TV.  The reason you do not see this issue with other content is because most other content is progressive (DVDs and other .avi, .mkv and so forth).  The TV signal coming in can be either progressive (720p) or interlaced (1080i).  Do you have the same problem with both types of channels?  Try updating your video card drivers and research where in the Nvidia control panel the deinterlacing options are located.

Its a long story but I bought the video card because of driver issues with the on board HDMI and my 32LG70 TV (LCD 1080p).  I bought the 9400GT to resolve the issue and use DVI.  I ran into another issue with the DVI with popping from the TV speakers.  So I moved the HTPC to another TV that is an old analog TV (Mitsubishi 80" projection) using the S-video.  The reason that I believe its the tuner card is that the stutter/Jump is noticeable in the recordings when played on my Laptop .  I have a HP DV5 (that I use plugged into my LCD TV.

I have all of the updated drivers from Nvidia and have tried multiple revisions.  When I clicked the use inverse telcine it seemed to help but not clear the issue entirely.  I will do some more research.  I can hook the HTPC up to the LCD and see if the problem goes away but I have done it in the past as trouble shooting and the jumping/stuttering is still there.  The issue is much more noticeable on non HD channels, (infact I do not think it exists on channels such as CBS HD, Fox HD, etc.)

If this was just an issue with the video card/drivers wouldn't the issue not appear on the other computer when watching the recorded content?

I appreciate all of the help.  I will be sure to update the thread if I find an answer so that it might help someone else.  although it does not seem that any one else has this problem.  Maybe I should include the video card in the post title with de-interlace in the title as well.

    again thanks for the help.

    again thank you.

I still have not been able to find the answer to this issue.  I have tried Inverse Telecine but it has not solved my issue.

The recordings are having the same issue when I play them on my laptop (HP dv5) with a 1024x1050 screen or connected to my LCD TV at 1080p via HDMI.  That is one reason that I think it is the Hauppauge tuner card.  I would think that the recordings would be fine when played on another computer.  BUT my laptop has a Nvidia 9200m viedo card in it so it may be an Nvidia issue.

I would like any help in figuring this out.  Are there interlacing/deinterlacing  settings that I can set on these video cards?

When I watch HD recordings on my TV I see no issues.  Also when I watch HD recordings on my laptop connected to my LCD I see no issues.

What could the issue be.  I was really hoping to archive the Family guy shows before I cut my cable off.  It really does me no good with the quality like this.
