    Hi!

Here in Sweden, the terrestial netowkr plan to change the standard from DVB-T to DVB-T2, which resulting in many tuners for Windows 7 will become obsolete. Does anyone know if there are Any good T2 tuners available on the market, preferrably those that work with a CA-module, like the floppydtv solution that many european media center users run today.

There are limited T2 tuners available, but these are all for STBs.  As far as I know, there haven't been any made for PCI/PCI-E cards yet.

Hauppage suggested they'd have a USB version out in time for the now-past World Cup, but this didn't come to anything.

Given that there are only about three countries either using or going to use T2 as standard, I doubt many companies would commit too much effort to developing any hardware any time soon.

Yeah, I'd love to know of some too (usb or pci). The really worrying this is that no manufacturers have started marketing them or at least given a press release saying that they will make one. Freeview really seems to be a step backwards (at least here in the UK) or at the very least, poorly organised.

I am on the lookout almost daily for a DVB-T2 card. I'm glad other countries are also switching over to DVB-T2 as this may help driver the market.

The most encouraging thing I have found so far is on the tranquilPC web site (http://www.tranquilpc-shop.co.uk/acatalog/ixL_i5.html). At the bottom of the page you will find reference to a DVB-T2 tuner that will be coming THIS MONTH:

Turn your ixL into a High Performance Media Centre

    .newStyle1 { border: 1px solid #0099FF; padding: 2px; }

The ixL is an ideal platform for a high performance media centre with all suitable A/V connections available.  To complete your ixL media centre please select from one of our DVB tuners.  Please see below an explanation of DVB services available.

DVB-T SD and HD Freeview services through your regular TV antenna Available now on all our PCIex cards
DVB-S SD and HD Freeview through your regular TV antenna (ie a SKY dish) Coming soon on the BG3595 PCIex card
DVB-S2 SD and HD Freeview / Satellite Channels through a dish (ie a SKY dish) Coming soon on the BG3595 PCIex card
DVB-T2 SD and HD Freeview through your regular TV antenna Available SEPT 2010 on a new PCIex card
    (upgrade offers will be available)

[EDIT] I have submitted a support request with Tranquil to ask for more details. Will post theb response if/when I get it.

Good news, I guess that means I should be able to buy a tuner when my local transmitter gets upgraded - in 2012! Angry

I shouldn't laugh, but I did.  At least by 2012 the market will be flooded with thousands of different types of T2 tuners and all of the bugs will be ironed out.

Of course by then the rest of us will be happily using DVB-T3 and Super-Mega-Hi-Def Freeview.

Seriously though, that's promising news on the Tranqil front.

In Sweden, freeview cards are useless because we can only get like 3 useful channels, all the rest are encrypted, and for that we need a CA-module. I guess all the larger manufacturers are focused on making set top boxes first, since that is what 98 % of the market is.

    Good spot!

Initial thoughts are that I'd like to see a dual-tuner PCI-E version... available tomorrow... but this is an excellent start. I may consider picking one of these up just to have a play with until the internal version become available.

Does anyone know how this will play along side a dual PCI-E DVB-T card in Windows 7?

£100 is very expensive for a single tuner.  In an ideal world I'd like to be able to do away with my DVB-S tuners (which are just used for BBC and ITV HD) and switch to a pure DVB-T2 setup.  However, I would need a minimum of 4 tuners which I would not pay £400 for!  If I could get twin tuners at £100/each then that would be much more palatable.

Windows 7 (x64) Media Center: Core i5 650, 4GB DDR3, 2x Pinnacle 7010ix (2x DVB-S, 2x DVB-T), 2x 2.5" WD 250GB RAID-1, 3x 2TB Samsung 3.5", 2x 1.5TB Samsung 3.5" (all hidden in rack cabinet in garage)* Extender 1: X-box 360 Slim 4GB, 46" Sharp 1080p LCD TV, Logitech Z-5500 Speakers Extender 2: Linksys DMA-2100, cheap 26" LCD! * Replacing old WHS since Microsoft removed Drive Extender and did not include Media Center. Agreed, but it is 'first off the line'.  And I would imagine that the tuners themselves are still as rare as rocking horse poo, pushing the price up.

I would suggest that by 2011, T2 tuners will be far cheaper and in many more configurations.

The DVB-T2 tuner coming available from Tranquil is a DUAL tuner. Its made by BlackGold. Tranquil have told me they don't have an availability date yet.

BlackGold have no details on their web site, so I have emailed them for details.

    Excellent work, Ben.

This could be very interesting.  I haven't used any BlackGold products in the past - does anyone have anything to say about their quality?

Blackgold have some problems - See here

Interesting to note that DVB-T2 is referenced in the drivers for the DVBT / DVBS2 BGT3595
