     Hi

I'm just wondering if anyone here has this case. I bought one last week and its a really top quality case (with a top quality price tag).

But the VFD imon display for me is pretty much useless. Normally with these things they are so bright they burn your retinas but in my case, I can hardly see the display, even in a dark room.
I read that imon advised oem manafacturers to not use dark screens in front of the displays but a lot did anyway.

I've been in touch with Origenae support because I'm not sure if my display is faulty or not, they dont think it is. compare images they show on their own site:

    http://www.origenae.co.kr/en/htpc_s10v.htm

and also on this review site: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Origen_ae/S10V/6.html

    compared to mine: http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/4262/imag0039y.jpg

    OrigenAE say:

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for sending us the picture.

We checked out the web-site of techpowerup that it seems to be a professional photographer took pictures to highlight the display part so that the display part shows brighter.

And one more thing, we have designed the display to dim because of eyestrain when customers watching movie on dark environment.

    Please understand this point.

    Best regards

I'm just wondering if anyone else has one of these cases and has the same experience or if their display is actually any good?

I have the VF310 iMon display in an Origen S16V case, and I also find it's too dark to read (unless I'm within a few feet of it).  This replaced a VF210 irTrans display which failed in the same case, and that was also too dark to read.  I tend to believe the claim that the Origen cases use a screen that is just too dark for these VFD displays, but to be sure you'd need to run the display outside the case as a test.

I have to say, I've not noticed any dimming of the VFD at night.  In any event, it's not easy to find a lighter screen, cut it to size and fit it in the case.  After spending so much on the case, I don't want to risk making it look unprofessional with a DIY mod.

At least with the VF310, iMon lets me configure it as a graphic equalizer display, which unlike text, is visible from 10 feet away.

     Hi

Its nice to know its not just my display that cvould be wrong Tongue Tied At some point when I have nothing to do ill take a look at the display outside the case and also at the glass panel of the case to see how its attached and if its replacable at all.

Its a shame that such a perfect case is otherwise ruined by this.

Have to agree this spoils the Origen case, but I'm not sure that other specialized HTPC cases don't have the same problem.

I didn't realize the panel was glass.  It should be easier to get different grades of smoked glass than plastic.  If you do have a crack at fixing this, post back to let us know how you get on.

I have the same case, I bought it a few months ago while planning my first HTTP. Right now it's under my bed waiting for my Ceton card to ship.

I thought mine looked bright. There are 2 different versions of the VFD I believe. If I get a chance, I'll plug it in and take a picture with my cell phone.

I have the S10v case, and have had since it was released a few years ago.  I had the VF210 in it until recently when I ordered and installed the VF310 due to Windows 7 remote functionality. I think the brightness on the display is adequate to read at 10 feet or so.No complaints from me.

On a side note, the Ceton card is an extremely tight fit due to an overhang.  I used a dremel to remove some of the aluminum from the case.  The cable card now slides in easier.

your eyesight must be better than mine because i cant even see mine at 3 feet

I have the M10 (same VFD) and I can easily read mine from 10 ft.  The product photos on the OrigenAE website are pretty much right on with what I'm looking at right now.  I'm wondering if there is something wrong with your VFD.

Slightly OT question, but do you guys have a HD activity LED on the front of the case, but no way to connect it to the motherboard? Mine has no connection for that at all.
