I am getting tunner not found no matter what I try. Ran the digital cable advisor installed card per instuctional PDF. Reinstalled drivers. When I check  Network I can see the ceton network device "BUT" after I scan for TV signal in Media center I get the "Tuner Not Found message" I can go back to Network and the ceton network device is gone. Its like one of the windows 7 services is failing. Had Comcast come out insert muti cable card same results. Any ideas?????? Just waiting on ceton support ticket.

What anti-virus software are you using?

  •

    comcast supplied norton

  •

I would not use Norton or McAfee with any digital cable tuner, I found Microsoft Security Essentials works best for Media Center PCs with Digital Cable Tuners.

Here is a link to others having issues using Norton.

Not saying this is the problem you are experiencing but, I would remove Nortons first and see if the issue reoccurs.

I uninstalled norton with the same results tuner not found, although I did find this in the event viewer it is the same for all 4 tuners.

Of course the first thing that comes to mind is AV.   I know that I had an issue with Norton installing and detecting the Ceton card.    When I removed it then everything worked find.   But you have already removed it and I assume re-detected the card.   I know of the ATIs some of us had a similar issue (http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/t/85124.aspx).  The Tuner Not Found message would appear and we would reboot the PC to rediscover the ATI cablecards.   The would occur about every 3 days.   From the post, if you turned off network discovery, this would fix that issue.    I am currently running with Ceton, both ATI tuners and HDHomeRun tuner and network discovery on.  This issue hasn't re-appeared for me.

I am doing this process with no cablecard Comcast would not let me keep the cablecard without activation. Will not having a cablecard inserted afect media center not being able to find the tunner?

  •

I do not have a cable card inserted comcast would not let me keep an unactivated card "does this matter?

  •

Let me ask you this, I do not have a cablecard inserted because comcast tech would not let me keep an unactivated cable card. Will this affect media center from finding the tunner? The comcast guy was here earlier, but when setup failed he left taking the cablecard with him.

  •

No change with Network discovery turned off same result. I am only seeing my HP Digital/Analog tunner.

  •

Everytime I setup TV in Media center my ceton network device dissapears. I can reboot PC and the network device reapears until I scan for tuner.

This shouldn't prevent Media Center finding the tuner it should see it as a QAM tuner without the cable card installed.   Try reinstalling the Ceton drivers, you might want to reseat the Ceton tuner in the PC.

    comcast supplied norton

Remove norton, find the special norton removal tool to get the straglers out, then install Microsoft Security Essential and TURN ON the Windows Firewall. Then look for your Ceton in Network. Media Center will not find it as a clearQAM tuner unless it has a cableCARD. It will find a over the air ATSC tuner. But if you find it in network you should be ready.

Have you run and passed the DCA in Media Center?

If so, when the cableCARD is inserted and a INIT sent, and you run tv Set-Up, you'll get the option to set-up media center with cable card, then you'll get a screen with the host ID, card ID and data and a number to call (that's what the comcast guy will do, then going on you'll have to ACTIVATE the cablecard portion of media center and this may take several minutes. Also if the cableCARD news a firmware update that can take 20 minutes to an hour depending on how they run their digital control network.

I've said it many times over and over, do NOT run Norton or McAfee. They'll screw you up, you have to open a bunch of ports to make digital cableCARD work, MS does it automatically with security essentials and the windows firewall.

Before we had that, we all went through Hell back in 2008 setting up cableCARD ATI DCTs with Vista.

Yeah thats what I thought aswell, but if you look on cetons website they claim ATSC and QAM will not work on the infinitv4 with out a cablecard but thet did not state that the card would not be recognized by media center. Thats why this question raised a red flag. The huge problem is I cant keep asking comcast tech to run out here and install a card every day. They wont let me keep an unactivated cable card which makes no sence to me, but that is what the comcast tech told me. Im in a rock and a hard place because I really cant successfully troubleshoot without a cable card.

Thanks John, I ran the norton stragler removal tool. Disconnected my USB tuner ran Digital cable advisor again, went through the TV setup, I see a setup digital antenna and a Digital cable sinal in media center. When I ckick on antenna sinal, media center tells me the signal cant be configured because the tuner is not available. restart the computer and try again.
