what i am looking at doing is to prob not have the WHS software but still stay with W7 jsut cause of driver issues. but is to have maybe the Ceton tuner card in an always ON computer that is only used for storing media like music and movies and stuff and that is basically in the main server area. then have SFF computers hooked up to the TV's in my house just cause they will barely use any power. and they get the tuners networked from the server pc as well as all the music and videos. not sure if this idea is good or bad. only trouble i can maybe think of coming into play is the recording shows i want all shows to stay on the Server. i think i would have to physicaly go to the server pc and run media center and tell it what shows i want recorded all the time. cause if i do it threw one of the SFF pc's media centers then they will have to turn on and then get the tuner feed to first come to the that pc and then it gets turned back around and sent back to the server pc if i tell it that my recording destination is the Server. I think that will just add the possibilty of Lag. even if i have a full gigabit network.
what do u all think or have any ideas that could tweak this to be better???
Just a couple of thoughts...
Based on the use case you describe, it seems like extenders may be a good fit for you, unless you are after netflix, internet tv, etc, at each location. Do you intend for the SFF PCs to be powered off or put into sleep when not in use? If all of your SFF PCs are in the homegroup and the Recorded TV folder is shared with the homegroup, then all copy-freely tv you record can be shared by all of the PCs. (Copy restricted content can only be played back on the device that recorded it, however). Finally, I would check out what WHS with Powerpack 3 offers you in terms of TV archiving (here's is a demo video that may help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxS4Ieyl01w )

yea understand that. my worry is because i have all SFF pc's telling them to record all shows to a network drive which would be the Server pc. so that means let say i am in the bedroom and i see a show i want to record that means when that show is about to start, the SFF pc will turn on connect to the server pc to start up the tuner to that channel. it will then stream the channel to the bedroom SFF, then in turn the SFF will send that show right back to the Server to record cause that where i have the recorded tv folder tied to with that SFF. so to me I would think i woudl have to always go to the Server pc and open up the media center on that computer (which will be probabaly WInodws 7 instead of WHS or anything like that jsut to make things more simple.) and do all my shows i want it to record. and to me thats would be alot of lag even on a GIGABIT network if i am recording like 4 shows at once, if i set up recordings straight from the SFF's......
tell me your thoughts or if WHS works differnetly on how this operates??
