I understand how to restrict the “parental control” and “Star rating” but I would like to restrict the remote user (over the internet) to just WMC files (recorded TV).  Does anyone know how to make that restriction? Is it also possible to have them play a DVD (from the DVD drive on my home PC) from the remote laptop as well as play a ripped movie (guessing they would have to be able to browse certain folders where the ripped movie, via DVD Fab, is stored) from my PC at home? Thank you!

Anytime you open your computer to the internet, you are asking for trouble.  The best thing is to get a hardware firewall, and VPN client software (can be purchased from the firewall manufacturer), so only the people you trust have access to your computer.

Thanks, I understand that.  This is a friend but there are still files that I don't want him to access.  I don't want to block him completely.  I just want him to have access to WMC files and be able to play a DVD on my PC if that is possible.

Just to wrap things up for anyone that is reading this post, I found out how to do this.

Once you “Allow Internet Access to home media” under “stream,” then go into “more streaming options” and adjust your default settings under “Choose default settings.”  That will set your settings globally for any computer that accesses your media.  If you want to individualize setting for various computers/users, click on “customize” for that particular computer/user.
