Hello, I have just installed WMCE 2005 oem version bought from ebuyer. The version is reported as 2002 but the discs and manual say its 2005. Is this just a mistake on microsofts part?
Thanks in advance
Kevlar
I know it's a little confusing but Windows XP is also known as Windows 2002 and Windows v5.1 so what is displayed in "My Computer" refers to that version ;-)
The best way to check the version number of Media Center is from the 10 foot interface in Settings -> General -> About Media Center which is described in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article.
Windows XP Media Center Edition:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005:
Windows Vista Media Center:
Windows 7 Media Center:
Note: The version information also includes the build string with the build lab and date (In the format: YYMMDD-HHMM e.g 051011-0745 was compiled on 11th October 2005 at 07:45). Unfortunately, this information was not present in Media Center prior to the 2004 edition.
Mark Salloway has a further run down on the various version numbers on his blog at: http://www.salloway.org.uk/MediaCenter/2004/version.htm
