how can i convert a dvd to dvr-ms with permanent subs?
only the movie needs to bee converted (no extras) but i want the subs to be permanent
Why do you want to do this?
Easiest way to have DVD content with subtitles etc on your MCE is to use the 'My Movies' plugin.

Either way you will still have to break the encryption of the DVD to get it on you hard disc. Use something like DVD Shrink to do this.
well... i have a reason... i don't want to load a dvd each time i wan't to see a movie...
for me it's a lot more easy to rip the disc and have them with danish subs
thanx....
encryption is broken before you can say: "what" ->> dvd shrink
i will give mymovies a go... i hope dvd shrink can strip alle the menu's and extras as i only need the movie itself
and why this.... well... i don't want to open the door for tde drive bay and then open the drive to load a disc...
i am the kind of person that would rather do a lot of work to get around getting up and change disc to see another movie
Then 'My Movies' is your answer.
Run your DVD throgh DVD Shrink or similar. Select the bits you want to keep & only create an ISO. Ensure you have Daemon tools installed & load your ISO on to the Daemon tools drive & copy with 'My Movies'. You can then delete the ISO & watch your DVD direct from MCE.
I believe you meant:
3. Open Media Center, go to my videos and browse until you get the folder where you ripped your DVD
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Also, make sure that you specify the option in DVDShrink to split the .VOB files into 1GB chunks. I made the mistake of ripping a couple hundred of my DVDs over the last year into single files for better playback on my Roku Photobridge. Turns out most software DVD players (I'm using TheaterTek) have a 1GB limit. So, I've spent the last month re-encoding 90% of my movies. Fun stuff!
