try uninstalling wmp 11 beta if you get really stuck, it mught be causing the problem.

Thanks to both - Have now got it working having rolled back to WMP10 and double chekced the resitry entry which had a typo !

Next question is - all is fine on standrd QT movies but QT HD H264 give me video only but no sound. Any ideas ?

Do QT HD files use a non standard audio codec ?

This comes up so often.  I would like to request that any developers out there who want a project.  Please make a little app that will add missing associations to media center for any installed codecs/programs.  While a huge reg file is available, it'll add stuff that you might not have installed.  would be great to just install a codec, run the app and be done with it.  Or uninstall, run the app and clean it out.

Of course, if your involved with the codec's themselves, please check for media center and add in the associations :)

Bryan do you have a link to the registry file which is available.
If the file is not availble I could make a reg file, for the missing associations for codec, if it would help anyone.

I actually thought you were just pulling out pieces from it.  its on here somewhere, searching quickly aren't bringin it up so I'm diving in..   (sub noises).

This is not the complete one I'm thinking off but this adds the various streaming audio formats (and some video stuff) including mime types for them.

This is taking too long.  maybe its time to make a new thread in tips and then create a series of links to codecs and associations needed for them to work and then add it the the most helpfull threads.

Bryan that link had only 4 video reg settings and some audio, one of the reg settings for ogm was incorrect.
I have put some video reg settings for 14 video files.

Hi.

I recently install PowerDVD 7.3 and it claims to play mp4,mov,etc.Thats all true but inside VMC no videos shows up.After making the mentioned registry changes those video types now showsup in VMC and thats OK...My question is Why i dont get any thumbnail from those videos to display in VMC?
