After I watch a video, in standard MCE mode (no Party), the menu ask me to restart, exit or delete the video. I want to optionally remove the delete option from the menu. It is possible?

If they are children, someone made a playlist editor for mce that would allow you to put a bunch of shows back to back and repeat them.  Are they at the age they don't need it interactive?

Laura, 4 years old, is able to select a specific video from the thumbnail view. The problem is that she can't read and the "Delete" button at the end is dangerous. If the button was a "Skull" may be it was not clicked...

BTW, there is a Party Mode skin with thumbnails, and not with "named" list?

Can't try now, but I'm courious... If the video file is write protected, the delete can not be performed from MCE, correct?

I"m not sure on that one.  a video file would be larger then a default trash can so it might be doing a forced perm delete.

What we need is a kids mode.  I wonder if telling them that tivo just added one would work :) 

What about a playlist for each video that has a looping ending file so it never makes it to the delete button?

I though of another possibility.. never tried this, but what if you made shortcuts of all the videos, put them in the folder for mce and hide the real files somewhere.  Then the delete takes out the shortcut and not the real file and you can put it back later.

That might just work.  Shortcuts will work fine in Media Center, not sure if they do over an Extender session or not.  Then, you would be deleting a .lnk and not the file itself!  Nice

hmm..  in that case, perhaps a read only share and reference the shortcut with \\computer\share\videoname in the shortcut.  might hit the tcp/ip stack a little more but for a kid and an extender, I can see the performance hit worth it.

Is there a command line to create a shortcut?  possibly a simple bat file that runs before the kids are awake, and when mom's soap operas come on would make it self maintaining.

Nope, doesn't work.  the shortcut is left alone and the video file is deleted.  I didn't try the share idea.

Any developers up for the task to poll mce every second and causing a back button keycode to get back into the last screen the kid was in before the video strarted before they can hit delete?  I know its possible, this is how most good video playlist works and mtv/vh1/etc use it.

Playlist are not what my daughter wants. She want to see randomly the videos (cartoons intro music)...

Just a thought, but what if you used an AVS file or a AVI linked file?  I've never tried to play them in Media Center, I know WMP will play them, so theoretically it should work.  That way if they deleted the file it would be the AVS or linked file.

Maybe setting read only for certain files might help. If not, user permissions would do the job for sure (NTFS partition presumed)

nope, the file still deletes.  ehshell is running as the user but everything else actually dealing with the file is system level.
