pablomediaI hope you someone can help me...A couple of days ago my Z556 stopped loading up, when I turned it on, the fans started, I got the "welcome to media center" on the front display, but no BIOS beeps... Nothing. The BIOS was not loading. So I pulled out the main HD to copy my media, but couldn't rescue anything! the disk was corrupted (60GB of music lost!!! AHHHHHH!!!)Anyhow... Now I just want to revive my media center and Im sure that the MoBo went bad.Has anybody here replaced their Z556 motherboard> What card do I need to get that will fit in the z556 case? Will a mini ATX work? Any feedback will be GREATLY appreciated...
My z558 did a similiar thing. The display showed that it was working but the TV screen was blank. I also had no BIOS beep at start up. My extender allowed me to watch it anyway. My problem was the video card. I've replaced two video cards since I'd had it in less than two year. The first one was under warranty and the second one died less than a week past warranty. I'm using a fanless video card now. I bought a spare just in case. I don't believe that you display would show "welcome to media center" if the mother board were bad. I believe you have a bad video card.
Thank you very much for posting this thread! My z556 stopped booting a few weeks ago, and I was nearly about to purchase a new power supply for over $100 when I found this info. I swapped out the video card and that did the trick! Turns out my DVI connector was knocked askew by pushing the z556 too far back against the back wall of my entertainment center. The connector was randomly shorting the board, causing intermittent problems. Thanks so much!
