I'd been running Vista Media Centre happily in 1080P 1:1 on my Panasonic plasma TH-P42V10 via a cheap ATI Radeon X1300. When I upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bit RTM), I couldn't get 1080P 1:1 any more, so I ran for a while in 1080i (no overscanning) with no problems. I recently installed a new Radeon HD4550 (connected to TV via HDMI output) and downloaded the latest (9.7) Catalyst package. This has given me 1080P 1:1 again, but with a problem.... The desktop is fine. Media Centre is fine when I launch it too. The problem comes when I scroll any menu items that are long enough to go past the right side of the screen (such as Recorded TV shows). When the white colour of the text touches the extreme right of the screen, it doesn't get set back to the background colour once the text has gone, leaving me with a very narrow column with some pixels that stay white until I close Media Centre (I can't get the same problem to happen by dragging desktop items to the right).
Here's how the pixels go white. This is after I've scrolled through some "Recorded TV" episodes:.... and this is how it then looks when I move to any other Media Centre Menus:....and this is how it continues to look when watching Recorded TV/DVDs/HD video:(Apologies for the quality of the photos - hopefully they're good enough to understand the problem) To clear the pixels, I need to switch back to the desktop.I have downgraded to the (Vista) Catalyst 9.6 drivers, but the problem is still the same....
I feel confident the problem isn't with the TV, as it was working fine with 1:1 1080P from Vista & my previous ATI card.
Any ideas?
(also asked in AVforums - I'll update both forums with any progress)
I believe I have now proven that this is a Windows 7 issue.
I created a new partition on the drive and installed Vista Home Premium with the latest Vista Catalyst drivers (which are ones that still produce the problems with Windows 7).
The problem definitely does not occur with Vista. To recap:
Catalyst 9.8 / Radeon 4550 / 1080P 1:1 / Win 7 - corrupted pixels Catalyst 9.8 / Radeon 4550 / 1080P 1:1 / Vista - No issue
Any thoughts on how I can get this investigated?
After a suggestion on avforums, I've just tried reverting back to Catalyst 9.4.
The problem is no more
I'm having this issue. Upgraded to take advantage of Flash 10.1 Beta, now I'm having this pixel issue with MC.
I tried going back to Catalyst 9.6, no luck. This had helped before going from 9.8 -> 9.6, not sure what might be different this time.
Anyone have any ideas what causes this issue, what can be done to fix it?
Anyway to "shift" the screen over a pixel?
Mike
I haven't needed to do it, but there is now a "hotfix" for this:

Cool, I'll give that a try.
