So I had my computer connected to an Xbox before with no problems about 4 months ago, but that Xbox Red Ringed. My roommate just bought another Xbox 360, and now I cannot setup the Media Center Extender. During setup I get the Error:
"A problem occurred during Setup. Please run setup again. If the problem persists, contact your computer manufacturer for assistance."
Ive read around to a few forums, it talks about checking Local Users and Groups, and Adding a "MCRD Users" group, which I did, and now anytime I try to run the extender setup (XboxMCE05Lite-enu).
I've also tried going to Start> All Programs>Accessories>Media Center> Media Center Extender Manager..........but when i run that, i get the error:
"Unable to start Media Center Extender Services"
and I cant check any Event Viewer logs in the Computer Managment, it give me an error: "Unable to complete the operation 'Media Center'. The interface is unknown."
Im running XP MCE Service Pack 3. I have uninstalled and re-installed the extender services.
And between now and last time I got it to work, I have may changed around MSconfig startup and services and the service startup type in the Computer Managment, but ive changed everything back.
PLEASE HELP ME.
Try uninstalling the connector software and reinstalling it.
What do you mean the Connector software?

anybody?
please help me.
That's only really a fix for if the setup is failing to initialize at the start. Which i used previously and got me going.. but now i've got the same problem as this guy. I can't figure it out at all. Running it on XP, i have the user group MCRD users , the problem keeps happening when it hits the 'creating a new user account' part. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and turned off and on, and switch for the lite version to the full version etc.
I'm at a total loss for idea's.. it seems to have something to do with it not being allowed access to create a new user account somehow.. but i have no idea how to change that. It's not from firewalls or anti-virus because i also temporarily disabled them when attempting to install a few times. It's also not a problem connecting to the xbox because the xbox will change screens initially saying attempting to connect once i add the key on the PC.
Help greatly appreciated. thanks.
Pretty sure it's the SP3 that's not letting it connect. Full reinstal with no sp3. Sorry.
