Hello all, I hope someone can help.

I recently just got done with a complete reinstall of my OS.  I an running XP Media Center 2005.  I thought I was done when I saw this one update that would not install after several attempts. I didn't think much of it.  I then tried upgrading from media player 10 to 11.  It also would not install b/c it said I was not running MC 2005.  I tried to open MC 2005 and it would not do so.  Mind you before the clean re install, I was running MC 2005 with SP3 with no issues.  So acting on some advice I got at other places, I removed SP3 and tried reinstalling updates.  This threw some of my drivers in a frenzy and now I am stuck with 4 bit display graphics.  I now have 4 updates that will not install.  I looked and saw that my system only recognizes that I am running MC 2002 and not 2005 like I had.  Can anybody tell me what the heck I did wrong in the re install and how do I fix it?  I am currently back to SP2 and still no dice.

First, a clarification:  System Properties will always show "XP Media Center Edition, version 2002" (or something like that - it's been a little while) for any XP-based version of Media Center.
Reason:  MC is 'bolted onto' WinXP v2002.  Media Center itself (in Settings > General > About > Software version) will show the 'proper' MC version.

    As to your issues:
Sorry, you'll need to wipe and reinstall the OS.  MCE2k5 is an absolute PITA to do a clean install of since SP3 was released.

Oh, and, apologies for this thread just sitting around for a couple of weeks without a response.  This folder (MCE2k5 & earlier) just isn't travelled so much anymore.  ;)
