I had MCE 2005 but started having a host of computer problems. I eventually decided to do a reinstall of the operating system. I stupidly forgot that there was a difference between plain XP and MCE. I found that I had an XP Home Edition disc (it belonged to my other computer), and so I reinstalled it only to discover that it wasn't MCE. I have searched everywhere but don't have an MCE disk (MCE came pre-installed on my Dell E510). But I obviously still have the hardware for receiving a tv signal -- I have always had the comcast calbe plugged right into the back of the computer. Is it possible to somehow get the tv working without MCE?
Also, one of the reasons that I had to reinstall the operating system was that I wanted larger hard drives (there are two in a RAID array). So, my reinstall is on the new drives. I still have the old drives that still have MCE on them. I suppose that opens up some possibilities.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My wife is about to kill me with all the time I have spent fiddling around with the box.
Mike
Hey Mike,
Have you checked to see if you original dell hdd has a recovery partition on it?
You can check by connecting the drive and using disk manager to see if there is a hidden partition on it.
If there is, connect it as your main drive and do a recovery.

Hi Big Al,
I have not checked but will. I have questions about how to end up using my new large drives that run in a mirror RAID array. A friend's son did the move for me the first time. I'm not sure I can get through it on my own.
But I will look for the recovery partition.
Thanks. . .
If there is no partition and you dont have the original media, use the link i my previous post and requset it from dell.
Once you have done a recovery you will have a few choices.
keep the original hdd as your source and the raid as onother drive
transfer the image of your original to the raid and use the raid as your main hdd and keep the original spare
What are your main goals with this rig? speed, storage, reliability?
I will eventually give that a try. Thanks for the help.
NP :)
