I have bought a new machine with MCE2005 preinstalled (it is a siemens scaleo C). I want to burn a dvd using Dcut and SonicEncoders.msi.

That way i can cut series, and burn them on a movie Dvd, and not a data DvD.

    I have heard that i need SonicEncoders.msi .

But how do i get that file when i dont have installdiscs (oam) but only a full recovery disc?

    Can anyone help ?

You don't. They are only to be preinstalled by an OEM if they choose to.

What do the sonic encoders add to an mce machine? I have several commerical available mpeg2 encoding codecs (legitimately). Could I just put one of them on the machine to get the same functionality?

I really wouldn't worry too much about not being able to get the encoders Sonic's MyDVD 6 / Studio Deluxe will allow you to import your recorded TV shows too. You download a trial version of that product from the software manufacturers web site.

The SonicEncoders just add the ability to send your recorded TV Shows to VCD or DVD format and record them. MyDVD 6 does the same job but from within windows but also supports MCE.

What everyone seems to be missing is that the sonicencoders.msi allow you to burn a video DVD from WITHIN the 10-foot interface!  If you have a dedicated tivo-replacement why on earth would you want to go back into windows on your 36" TV when you can do EVERYTHING from within the interface.  That is where the sonicencoders.msi is handy.  In fact, so much so, that I bought the OEM 3-pack just to get it.  My MCE is strictly a tivo-killer for my family, and I don't want anyone (besides me via VNC for maintenance) to ever see the windows desktop!

Ran into the same problem. Two sources, ebay look for the Windows XP Media Center Edition Multimedia Feature Pack, that has the encoders. Or do a google search and look through the posts, I was able to find it there, the file is only about 2mg.

I added this file and I see the options to create the dvd the problem is is hangs while encoding and sits ad the current %. I have let it sit there overnight nothing ever happens to the DVD. The DVD remains blank. Anyone else see this? Do i need soemthig other than sonicencoders.msi? This is a home build MCE.

Had the same issue on my box, hp store bought. The encoders fixed the problem. I even emailed sonic and they told me that "they had supplied the fix to microsoft and it was up to them to distribute it". Poked around found the sonicencoders.msi on the web, create a restore point and gave it a try. Worked like a charm.

I realize that there are other solutions out there, but i felt that the pc should work as designed.

regarding dvd video burning? I'm away from my mce right now but will give it a shot as I haven't been able to burn dvd video at all using sonicencoders.

I would do a system backup before you install that crap update. I installed it, and a dvd burn that once took me 30 minutes now takes me about 13 hours. Thirteen mother f%$#^ng hours. System restore won't remove it. It has an option to uninstall in the control panel....it doesn't work either. Once you install it, you're stuck with it.

    Good luck.
