I can get into standy from remote with no problems at all, but it wont wake up with the remote. I have read through all the posts on the S3 remote hack to standy and wake up via the MCE remote.  But I am still having problems. I have tried everything listed in the big S3 post except one item that I cant complete.

I am pretty sure that my problem lies in the device manager> USB Controllers> USB Root Hub> Properties> Power Management Tab - The option to check to allow this device to bring the computer out of standby is grayed out and I cant select it.  The only thing I can change in that screen is the setting on allowing the computer to turn this device off to save power.  I have tried unchecking that item and rebooting to see if I can then check the to bring it out of standby but it doesnt work.

    Any Help is greatly appreciated.

When the machine is in standby, does the red light on the reciever light up when you hit the power button on the remote?  if not, the usb controller is set to power down the port on standby.  it sounds like where your looking but its not.  it might be in bios, it might be a physical jumper, it might be under the usb controller itself in device manager.

however, I usually have the tab or don't.  never grey'd out.

No the red light doesnt come on, but if I unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in it will light up but still wont power on with the remote.  I have checked all the bios settings I can see that would apply and the only jumpers that look relevant to me are to either enable or disable wake from standby, and they are set to enable.

Do you have the remote patches installed on your system?  aka how out of date if your mce?

also have you been moving the reciever to different usb ports?  this could be an issue if you haven't been hand removing old drivers.

I am pretty sure I have every available update but I will check again when I get home tonight.  I have tried the remote on 2 different USB ports just to make sure it wasnt the one that was bad.  I didnt remove any drivers when I did that.  How would I go about doing that now?

Its very simple to clear them out, you need to add an envirmonet variable which will allow you to show hidden/missing hardware in device manager, you can then go over the list and uninstall everything not found.

    Heres how:

    1. Press [Windows]+[Break] to bring up the System Properties dialog box.
    2. Select the Advanced tab and click the Environment Variables button.
    3. Click the New button below the System Variables panel.
    4. In the New System Variable dialog box, type devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices in the Variable Name text box and 1 in the Variable Value text box.
    5. Click OK to return to the System Properties dialog box and then click OK again.
    6. Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
    7. In Device Manager, go to View | Show Hidden Devices.
    8. Expand the various branches in the device tree and look for the washed out icons, which indicate unused device drivers.
    9. To remove an unused device driver, right-click the icon and select Uninstall.

If its not ok to remove it, it will stop you and warn you not too. Basically anything thats grey and not black, pull out. if you plug it back in later, it'll put the driver back. Even if its the name of something connected. if its grey, thats not the driver its running. I also reboot after I clean out the system just for luck. Some things may require you to immediately reboot. Reboot and go back in if thats the case. This is not an area to say no in.

Another note, in the future, you only need to select the hidden devices in device manager. The enviroment variable will stay behind unless you remove it or reformat.

Ok, I finally got some time, so I went and added all of the updates that I could add and also removed any unused device drivers and I am still in the same boat.  I box to allow device to wake from standby is still greyed out.

Your in the wrong place, the remote control is in the keyboards section of device manager.  Its the ehome remote control keyboard keys.

If there is no power management tab, then you need the below usb hack and a reboot to activate it.  some people were talking about 2 keys in this section.  I forget where I read it but I think your suppose to use only 1 key which is how I apply it.

Now, theres also a chance that your mobo is reporting s4 instead of s3.  this is fixed with the dumpo.exe util and theres instructions for how to set that correctly in the standby hardware and software solution and you can find that thread in the useful posts thread.  s4 is hibernate.

some people have also made sure the usb port always supplies power to the remote control using a hub.  There was mention of a bug in the driver for it, but I dont know if thats been fixed.  there was an instance where people HAD to use a hub but I haven't heard anythign about this in months.

    USB Hack:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usb]  (usb doesn't exist, you need to create it)

"USBBIOSx"=dword:00000000   (this goes under the new usb key you made).

I tried applying the USB Hack and it seemed to apply just fine but I still dont have a power management tab.  In the  registry I already had the USB key with no data in it so I copied and pasted - "USBBIOSx"=dword:00000000 - in as the data value and rebooted.  Did I do it wrong?

It sounds like you've not got the key right.

When you have navigated to the correct key in the left hand pain of the regitry editor, right click in the right hand pain and pick "Add" then "New" select "DWORD value".

Call the Dword value "USBBIOSx" without quotes. Double click on the new entry and then make sure it is set to 0

Thanks for all your help!  I FINALLY got it figured out!  I figured I probably had the USB hack wrong and I sure did.  Thanks again its working great now.

I have Logitech UltraX Remote, and I use it within my MCE configuration. Until recently I did not use it to wake up PC from S3 stand-by. I thought that that feature would work only with original Microsoft MCE remote which is IR remote. Now I wake up PC with this 2,4GHz radio remote controller. Thank You all guys!

    Hey guys,

First post and something in this thread caught my attention. I was completely unaware that you could actually power up a computer via the MCE keyboard (connected via IR receiver of course). Could you please post a link to the thread that refers to this hack? Thanks a lot guys!

No no, I know where the button is on my keyboard, I want to know about the hack mentioned above (somewhere in another thread) about waking it up using the same button. Right now, when I press the moon, it goes to S3 no problem, but I cant wake it up. I have to press the power button on the machine...
