I just discovered these forums, WOW what a wealth of information. I never used my WMC PC that much until I bought my 360, now It's become an obsession. I've learned the correct way to tag music, what all those hidden albumart files were for and how important that Folder.jpg file is if you want your artwork to look good!
I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to in the forums so PLEASE help if you can. I have 2 UNKOWN ALBUMS showing up in Album view using WMC and the 360 MCE. I've tried to simply Delete the album however it doesn't work. If you open it you get the following "The album cannot be found. Please ensure that the album is on your computer and available in the Media Library. You may want to try searching for new media files on your computer in WMP." There are no unkown albums showing up in WMP. They are all tagged correctly and showing up perfectly by album/genre/artist or any other category in WMP. Where can I find the album and delete it?
I hope i explained that correctly and I appreciate any help you may have to offer.
go into wmp and look in the library for the files and yank then there. If they aren't physically there then you can at least remove them from the library. this is where mce gets the info from.
Like I said in my first post, There are no unkown albums showing up in WMP. They are all tagged correctly and showing up perfectly. I don't know what the files are. I can't find anything in WMP that has an Uknown album. MC doesn't show any files associated to it either, just the message that I showed in the original post.
Have you tried to delete your WMP database (directly, in Windows Explorer), and then re-scanning your music library? If not, delete the contents of these folders:C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player C:\Documents and Settings\MCXx\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
By doing this, WMP (and your Extender) will both 'forget' about everything they knew about all of yor media (but, without the risk of accidentally deleting all of your media) :) Then, you get to re-introduce the 2 of them to all of your stuff. Should get rid of those pesky "Unknown Album"s (assuming, of course, that you don't have some random .wav file(s) in the same music folder that WMP and your MCX are looking in. Hey - it happens to all of us. I've had it happen, too - EAC {love the program, but...} has sometimes 'forgotten' to encode songs to .mp3 on occasion. :(

Thanks, I did exactly what you said. It didn't fix the problem, however it did lead me to the eventual fix. I found out that MC doesn't like " in the Album title. By deleting my db's, rescanning my collection, then copying my db to MCX1 I knew I had perfectly matching collections. Then by comparing my album list in WMP to the one in MC I found the 2 albums that contained " were the ones missing. WMP doesn't mind the " however MC doesn't seem to know what to do with them. Thanks for all the help!
Wow.
All these years later and this advice completely fixes my (same) problem. It turns out some 12" single titles were causing the "unknown album" nightmare with the presence of the ".
So I've changed " to inch and everything works!
Thanks for a great forum!
