btw, here are some screenshots with the backdrops -- I think they look pretty darn cool

Maybe, unlike MediaBrowser, you can have the default setting be 'No Backdrops', but maybe have an additional setting so if a user wanted them, they could enable them. Anyway, just thought I'd show you how it looks on my end. Cheers!

Thanks for the screens. I tried it just now (as I am typing this) on a couple of my series and it's not ...bad, Like before, my main concerns are:

    • Synopsis text is a little hard to read
    • gallery almost disappears when you move to pivots
    • no visual separation between gallery items and background. Some backdrops are better than others in this regard.

Still messing around it with different series....hmm ...maybe I should reconsider and have the following options for a BackgroundImage setting: "None", "Banner Only", "Backdrop Only", "Banner and Backdrop"

"maybe I should reconsider and have the following options for a BackgroundImage setting: "None", "Banner Only", "Backdrop Only", "Banner and Backdrop"

    This;)

I don't have a problem with the text at all or the other concerns you mentioned, but you're right about some backdrops being better than others for this. The first 'Fringe' backdrop that was automatically fetched wouldn't have been right at all, but then I found another that suited it perfectly. Which is why I think it would work best as a bonus for geeks who wouldn't mind browsing tvdb for backdrops and who'd appreciate the extra eye-candy (and can thumb their nose at bloatware like MB and MyMovies).

btw, since I've paid for far worse programs, let me know if you're accepting donations, it would be well worth it!

Hey, I wanna show my backdrops too! The banners were always stretched out and looked horrible. Just my 2 cents. I've been using the backdrop trick since the first dude discovered it; I found white-ish, grey-ish, or blue-ish colors don't clash with the text and so forth. I have also been meticulously creating my own series/season/episode thumbnals/poster art; as I don't like most of the stuff it pulls from TVDB.

Waiting on Jack to make a movie library plugin with backdrops and play random and boxset support and other features :P

RE: stretched banners looking horrible...I had to do some manipulation on them to get them to fit w/o obscuring the command button list at the top of the page. Was never completely satisfied withit.

RE: Backdrops...alright you two convinced me. As long as you're ok with how it looks now with your hackerations I will add support for backdrops. Agreed?.

UPDATE: feature was added. I will dog-food it on my HTPC and when all is good I'll put up a new release. Added "Gallery" option in settings. Click that to get to the gallery options page. On that page you can switch background image type.

TBH we can get it working as of right now, no need for you to do anything extra. But that's just how I feel.

Too late. It's already done and working :P

  •

And this is precisely why you rock, Jack! Can't wait for the new release:)

  •

Hi Jack, love this app! The you tube search and podcasts function are great! What I would like to do is get rid of the standard recorded tv function but add tv library as art of the strip so that I can still access the tv guide. Is this possible?

  •

You can do that with Media Center Studio.

Jack, I added three new series to my library, which TV Library detected. But then a few minutes later one of them disappeared. I made a slight adjustment in the video name (changed Person of Interest.S01E01.mp4 to Person.of.Interest.S01E01.mp4) which seemed to work, cause it showed up in the library again. But then a few minutes later, ALL THREE of the new series disappeared. Any idea what's happening? I know if I delete all contents of VideoEngine folder and rebuild library, that'll probably fix it but I'd rather not have to do that each time. Is there a strict naming convention I need to stick by to prevent a series from disappearing?

  •

It should treat both versions as being the same exact series. However it looks like it's not doing that. It's still seeing "Person.of.interest" and "Person of Interest" as different during the content identification step.... Can you provide a copy of the .log file?  For  the other two series do they all follow the same naming pattern or does either of them have episodes with different naming formats?

  •

I'm not home right now, will see about providing you copy of log file when I am. btw, my roommate says this would probably be solved if there was a  manual refresh option within TV Library. She says a few times she's added folders to our monitored 'TV Shows' folders but they rarely show up on their own or in the two hours that it takes to sync. I hadn't realized that she was always just deleting the Content file to refresh.

Would it be better if we added each series folder individually to be monitored? I was hoping that a single' TV Shows' folder with all our series inside it would suffice. Let me know, thanks!

  •

Emailed you our log file. In the meantime, my roommate says she may have found a fix -- she unchecked the 'Remove Missing Content' option. After that she added another series and it hasn't disappeared yet. Interestingly enough, the one benefit she thought she would lose -- the automatic removal of series that were deleted in Windows Explorer-- she didn't. She says she deleted a series, then opened TV Library and the deleted series was gone from there as well even with the 'Remove Missing Content' option unchecked. If it continues to work, that's good enough for us...

The real-time file-watching stuff is not affected by that setting. That setting only controls whether or not the system removes things it could not find during file-to-db sync.  I am still trying to figure this issue out (replied to your email).

Something is borked with the filepaths between the time the series is first added to the db and the next time the sync occurs. The next time the synch occurs it scans the library folders then compares those filepaths it found to the filepaths in the db. The ones from the db that were not found during the scan are removed --unless that "Remove missing content" setting is enabled.  So if files are being moved between folders when a synch is going on then this could create issues.

Another possibility is one of the files has a different naming format. I am looking more into this scenario.

Person.Of.interest.S01E01.avi should be treated the same as Person of interest-S01E01.avi.
