    Hello Everyone

This is to anounce that My Tv Shows has started development.  This application is similar to My Movies, but is taking off where Brian has said he doesn't plan on going.  My TV Shows will deal with all your TV shows that have been ripped to the hard drive, and will organize them in what I think would be an orderly fashion.

I am still a couple months away from a beta, but I would like to get some feedback from people who would be interested in the application.  What features would you require to consider using this application?  What features would you like to have, but isn't mandatory.

This is my current idea of what the software will be for the initial release:

    1. The application will be multi-zone capable (meaning multple MCE can access the same database)

    2. There will be a standalone show editor that can be installed on any computer to update the database

    3. The database will be MS Access

    4. The series information will come from Tv.Com.  If you have any others that you would like used let me know and I will look into it.

    5. Other developers will be able to create plugins for other data loaders.

    6. The Application will be able to be accessed from the Main Start Menu or More Programs

At this point I am not exactly sure whether I am going to develope this for 2005, or vista or both.  Both is highly unlikely.  Feel free to give your feed back on which one you would prefer.

Other Features that may not make it to the original release, but are on the drawing board:

    1. The Application will either replace My TV, or be found in My TV.  This means if it replaces My TV you would use this application to access recorded show, live TV and such.  Or if you select My TV you would have an option to load My TV Shows from there.

    2. Parental COntrols.  Currently I have not found a site that gives the ratings of the show.

    3. Ability to add shows that have been recorded through Media Center

So again, I would like to get your input.
Are there features missing that you feel are a must?
Are there features missing that you would like to see?
Would this program be worth downloading for free?

    Thank you
    Mike

The drawback of More TV is that it only works with dvr-ms files.  It only allows editing of existing metadata, you cannot add metadata a wmv or divx. AFAIK

Your access db would solve that problem, so I can transcode my files to divx or xvid and still have series info.  The option to manually add series info would be a bonus.  Kind of a "My Movies" for tv shows.  Rock on.

BTW: I'm not bad-talking More TV.  I use it right now and it is sweet.

    Hi Richard

Yes, I am aware of the Application AndyC has developed, but from my understanding of that app, he only organizes show's that have been recorded from TV.  In the initial release I don't think I will deal with recorded shows.  The purpose of my app will be to organize TV Shows that users have ripped to their hard drive.

Just so I've got this on 'paper' (I know we've talked about it before), I'd love to see the ability to rename the actual files to match the series information.

For example, not only associate a certain file with a series and episode number (and get it's synopsis and rating etc.) but I'd like to be able to point it to a directory and have it convert the standard episode names you usually find - eg. <program>S<season>E<episode> or <program><season, w/ leading zero>x<episode w/ leading zero> to the real name of the episode. It could then add the database entries automatically.

So I'd be able to take it to my directory of recorded House episodes (with the episodes numbered House.S02E01, for example). It would then take me to a list of options of what that series really is (eg. search for the series name in TV.com) and let me choose the right one, and have it add the files to the database and (optionally) rename the files appropriately.

It's a bit of work, but it WOULD be cool.

This is exactly what I've been looking for - I have several Tb's of TV shows archived on a media server, with nothing like MyMovies to access it through MCE in a more organised manner.

Are you planning on starting a dedicated page/site for the development of this?

Can you please add network support as well (like My Movies 2) and management that doesn't neccessarily have to be from the MCE machine (i.e Serverside MGMT). These are 2 features of MM2 that really pulled me in because I run a Media Server...MM2 on my MCE box allows me to access the database that is stored on the server...I only set this up once and thats it! Now, whenever I add a movie to the server, I open the Management tool on the Server and add the title and my MCE picks it right up! I see great potential in this for your Tv Shows plugin...

Sounds like this is just what I am looking for, I have a large collection of science fiction ripped to disk (England gets it about a year or longer after the US), just wish I could have this NOW!

Given that Vista is not that far away, I would develop it for that rather than XPMCE even though that means I might have the wait longer for this.  I have halted buying anymore components for my MCE box until "Ready for Vista" starts appearing on the packaging.

So far: OrigenAE X11; AMD Athlon AM2 64 x2 3800+; ASUS M2N-E; MSI NX7600GS; LiteOn SHM-165P6S-02C; Nesteq Semi Fanless ASM PSU 450w; Logitech Harmony 885 remote

Cant wait...let me know when its ready!

This sounds great. Please keep the motivation going, and let me know when you need testers!

I agree that you should probably just look at supporting Vista rather than MCE2005.

this is exactly what I'm looking for, especially for Vista... any way I can help?

I think maybe he's given up on this idea, hasn't been back to the Greenbutton since 11-August  http://thegreenbutton.com/members/mpdeglau.aspx

Looked like a good idea though.

Just to let you know, More TV organises DVR-MS, WMV, and other types of shows.  The "other types of shows" are handled with XML files containing the metadata for the show.  All of these metadata types can be edited within the app too.

    Cheers,
    Andy

  •
Do the "other types of shows" include Divx and Xvid?
  •
Andy.. MoreTV looks great.. in fact I purchased it.. unfortunately it won't work for Vista... any plans to port it over?
